I see your're in Colorado, so how the hell do you get Hong Kong ESPN? Some sort of satelite setup?

internet feed, fed into a video scaler/processor, then out to the home flat panel...video looks just like typical cable...it's not HD quality, but then again, F-1 is not broadcast in Hi Def anyway...so, it's good enough for me.. :) video quality aside, that and the fact that i can't understand cantonese, i was thrilled to watch a race with only a few commercials...all action...

I predict that Speed will be showing F1 in HD by the end of the year.

I predict they won't. Otherwise they would have been hyping the hell out of it by now. There's a very informative thread at www.avsforum.com that concludes that as of now there are no plans to transmit F1 in HD until next season at the earliest. Perhaps there is reliable information that refutes this, but not that I know of.

The FIA is the one doing the broadcast, and controls the rights yes? the question is, do they--The FIA--already have the equipment/system set up? all the footage so far is shot on non-HD cameras, yes? they would need to put in the cameras and the new equipment to transmit the feed. Speed TV just gets the feed from the FIA yes? Unless the FIA shoots in HD, then Speed can't has no say in the matter...

Speed used to be really good, they used to show a ton of differant stuff like Car and Driver, WRC races, but they cut back. Now all they show is Nascar, and its not just races. They have like 6 hours of pre-race shows. I hate to say this, but Nascar probably brings in more money in North America then F1 does in North America (I maybe wrong, please prove me wrong!).

i was simply asking if anyone KNOWS for sure, whether the FIA has the HD equipment needed. you can't have HD unless you shoot with HD cameras first, then send the feed via HD network.

I saw Speed's coverage of the Spannish GP practise this AM.
Overall I think it was GREAT !
    Good job to all.
If Speed wont cover F1 then no-one will ( except the "cherry" US and Monaco GPs ).
    TIVO to the rescue.

Of course Speed recognizes that NASCRAP has the WWF business model as their model and they will follow them wherever they go - they are going to be successful here in the USA - but that does not mean that the FIA/Bernie will be persuaded to seek other alternatives for outlets in the US - sorry - that will never happen - note that our Speed guys, Steve, David and Bob, will be doing the "non-speed" commentaries on Fox this year rather than our being subjected to the CBS *&*&*&*&%#@@!(*( commentary as in past years. Doesn't that tell you something?

    Trust me - I'm a lawyer!

SPEED's coverage is pretty good, when they cover it. For the GP at Malaysia i had the option of watching it from 3-5AM or from 11PM-1AM. I know where F1 now stands on their programming schedule.

I am not trying to be funny (for once) but what does being a lawyer have to do with it? I don't get it.

It was self-deprecating humor - or at least an attempt.

Seriously though - check out the post immediately above - HD before the end of the season - like I said.
