Have searched all the threads on this subject and still need help.

Have a 98 Spider with a driver seat problem. The seat moves back and forward but won't go all the way forward. It stops just short of the rear bolts so I can't get the seat out. I'm convinced I have a coin or some such object wedged in the track or the opening system. Seat goes all the way back but only about three quarters of the way forward.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to address this problem.

I know there's no problem with potentiometers or the motor as they work fine until the seat binds.

Had the same issue with a 1997 F355. I assumed the Problem was loose change in the rails or some such thing. After hours of trying to figure this out, it turned out that the rectangular lock washers under the rear fastening hardware had shifted slightly and were preventing the seat from moving forward enough to access the hardware. Not easy to get to but making sure that the washers are straight (mirror, screwdriver to gently pry washers straight) corrected the problem. beats cutting the seat up with a sawsall!

    Hope that helps

Normal spider problem. Bad potentiometers. Will wind up keeping the top from working.

I disconnected the white plug which I understood powered the potentiometers, and using the seat switch not the convertible top switch to move the seat it won't move the last four or five inches. I understood from the threads I researched, this eliminated the potentiometers. Am I wrong? The seat works fine except it won't move forward the last few inches.

    Thanks in advance.

Finally got the problem fixed. There was a coin lodged in the runner, a quarter to be exact. It's extremely easy for a coin to find it's way to the runners and getting lodged. I won't be carrying any coins in the future.

I just wonder how many dealers have replaced potentiometers when they weren't needed. If a coin gets lodged the symptoms are the same. Put the quarter in your pocket and sell potentiometers.

If you have a seat problem make sure it isn't a coin or like object before you assume a bad potentiometer.

Here's the coin as you'll see the seat did a lot of damage to the quarter.
