hanging the back out on any car while it looks neat is not the fastest way around a corner, and as I said I am a driver so my opinion is based on the fact that I like top performance out of any car. any car can be driven at the limit rwd cars are just faster.

    Gallardo hands down.

Iam sorry but I was soooooo disapointed in the F-430 when I first saw it. I really like the 360 much better.

Isnt the 430 about 1 second quicker than the Gallardo? While the visuals are very nice, performance wise, Gallardo is too slow for a super car.

500hp which would probably be 390awp assuming it has a 22% parasitic drivetrain loss(could be more because it's awd). It's not the fastest car, though it is nothing to chuck rocks at either, but to place the Gallardo as a supercar, is IMO, incorrect, as a Murci would be Lambo's competitor in that category. That being said I would personally take the F430, although if the Superleggera was a possibility then I would change my answer, because I would like to track the car/drive it in a spirited manner. The Gallardo is good for some of that and some show.

Race car or tractor? I'll take the race car. Until Lambos enter the world of racing they'll remain nice cars that look good. Given Audi's recent racing success it's interesting they haven't entered their Lambo division in this endeavor. Until Lambos develop a racing heritage they'll remain the fancy whim of a tractor magnate who didn't like Enzo's attitude.

Here we go, rallying around the heritage flag. Lamborghini did have a brief history in Formula One.

Gallardo. It just sort of flows better then the F430. The spider version is miles better looking then the F430 could ever be.

For Coupes, I like them both equally. They are both great cars for different reasons.

But for Spider versions, I definitely prefer the Gallardo (much cleaner design, better top configuration, glass rear window, much sexier overall). I think the Gallardo Spyder is the best looking convertible on the market.

I plan on buying a 430 in addition to my Gallardo Spyder, but not the street car! ;-)

1 second quicker over what distance/speed? The cars are so close in performance in the real world.

I thought we were talking about street cars here. But, if I wanted a race car, then yes, I would buy the F430 Challenge Car. If I want a street car, I'll take the Gallardo Spyder (which I did). ;-)

If any of you guys think the F430 street version is a "race car", you really should give your head a shake. Go drive the F430 street car on a track, followed by the F430 Challenge Car, then tell me your impression. Not even close. The F430 street car is not a race car. Not even close.

Haven't driven the modified tractor, but own a 430. Great car. I like the look of the 430 over the tractor, but not having driven one, I can't comment on it's handling, etc. I do know that the Germans do get their stuff to work well, but generally their cars have no soul.

I'll stick with what I've got.

Better choice is to drive the Challenge car , followed by the street 430 and then the Gallardo on the track and then decide. Clearly the Challenge car will out perform the street F430 (duh). But what's better is comparing the street versions?

My problem is Lambo has never established a racing heritage.

    IMO,

Gallardo looks like a toy, lines are very sharp. 430 has the classic sports car lines.

I have always been fascinated by people that put weight into racing heritage while driving a street car.

I like your idea. Wait a minute, I have done that! And again, I would buy the Gallardo for the street (which I have), and the Challenge Car for the track (which is in process). Hope that clears things up for you.

I am assuming then that you drive your street car more on the track than on the street? For anyone who has done any serious track driving, street cars just don't cut it. Period. Doesn't matter whether it's an F430, Gallardo, etc. If you want a car that excels on the track, don't play make-believe on the street, buy a track car.

Trust me, once you have driven and/or owned a true race/track car, those hundredth's of a second don't mean squat on the street.

But wait a minute, what about the lack of racing heritage? Those magazine guys must be liars! ;-)

And for those that put so much heed into racing heritage, why is the Gallardo faster around Hockenheim and the Nurburgring?

    Hockenheim (published times):
    Gallardo - 1:11.8
    F430 - 1:12.7

    Nurburgring (published times):
    Gallardo - 7:52
    F430 - 7:55

And it is also interesting to note that these times were with pre-06 Gallardo's. 06 and later cars have 20 more hp, improved gearing, and improved steering feel.

Quite frankly, they are both great performers, and these numbers mean very little on the street. It would be foolish for someone to use these numbers as their purchase decision. But my question is, if racing heritage means so much, why is the car with all the racing heritage slower on a race track?

Like I said, if you want a track car, but a real track car.

If you are Michael schumacher, then get the 430.....If you are a guy wanting to be Michael schumacher... get the 430.... But, if you are a regular joe that want to have easier access to stable handling , good performance, and good looks... gallardo would be better. I am surprised people are so caught up with the marketing machine that Ferrari created via the tie in with F1 that its just silly. Regular roads are much much different from the race track. Road cars are worlds apart from race cars... i would expect individuals here who are successful to see past it and see it for what it is... a great marketing campaign..nothing more ....nothing less.... But I am constantly amazed at people still falling for that hook line and sinker.... Then again, I am on a ferrari forum....lol...
