fish, if you're a 60's leftover like I am, you'll likely remember that hippies called fraternity members "frat rats". To a member, "frat" was a very uncool term.
Tau Kappa Epsilon, UGA No chapter there anymore, tossed off campus too many times.... It seems that things such as drinking, doing drugs and chasing skirts are just not acceptable in a Fraternity any more, at least not acceptable to the University! Some of the stuff we did, looking back, is just impossibly crazy. In my day, nobody called it a "frat", except stupid high school kids who didnt know any better. Terry
NeuroSpeed, You know that statue of George Washington on top of Washington Hall. Well, about 10 years ago, it was in my studio for about a year undergoing an extensive restoration. I was a Lambda Chi Alpha at Birmingham-Southern College.
UVA - Zeta chapter 46 East Lawn was a fun place to be. The brother living there was required to keep fridge stocked with beer in exchange for the free rent.
Nice! Our claim to fame is that E. Bradford Holbrook is from our chapter. What ever possessed him to write the Star and Crescent is beyond me! One funny thing we would do was to tell eventually "confide" in pledges that AEKDB stood for, "Always and Everywhere Keep and Defent Bologna" Good times!
WAS in Sigma Chi, ASU. Never partied harder. Breakfast club on saturday mornings... Image Unavailable, Please Login
I would agree, it was called a fraternity. I was a Sigma Pi at UK. Ahh, those were the days.... There was a reason it took me 5 1/2 years. I shoulda took 10!
the phrase i was always told was: "it's a fraternity, not a frat, would you call your country a cun*?" i'm a phi at westminster college, fulton mo, our claim to fame is that our chapter was founded by the guy who started our fraternity, robert morrison. it was his last chapter that he founded, and he is actually buried in fulton.
It is indeed called a fraternity...there is no such thing as a frat guy...or a frat house. Nothing pisses me off more than hearing girls say " so are you in a frat?" I have taken to answering "no" and not saying anything else.
