It would definitely be a 288 GTO for me. I love the 3x8 bodystyle and the supercar performance of the GTO would be perfect.

    Since I couldn't find a 50s Ferrari for that, probably a Fiat 8V Zagato...

Sooooo many cars... I like the idea of a 288 GTO, though. And for $500k, you'd have a little money left over to keep it on the road.
Of course, these hypothetical questions always leave me thinking of all the extra expenses that would go into owning a $500k car. If someone gave me a new 599 as a gift, there would be no way for me to afford to keep it. I don't think I could pay the insurance on it, let alone maintanence.

I'd have to go with a 275 gtb of some iteration & hopefully have a good pile leftover for upkeep. At that point, I think I'd be done playing automotive musical chairs :)

I'm with the few 288GTO responders here. I take it that 500K puts me in that game??

That is easy, Ferrari F40. The price seems to stay steady so it would keep it's value more than a Carrera GT, or some of the other new cars.

Good call. If you could find a good example of one in the sub-$500K range that would be a great investment. They are going up fast. The only thing I dont like about the Cobras is that for every original, there are 5000 replicas so people just assume you're driving a replica. If that dosent bother you the the Cobra is the way to go.

I think a CGT definately qualifies for supercar territory. They are depreciating at the moment but I dont think they'll ever go below $300K. Find one with a rare color and not to many miles for around $330K, dont put many more miles on it for the next 10 to 15 years and you'll probably be able to get all of your money back and then some. With whats left over from the original $500K you can buy a cool daily driver. 997 turbo perhaps?
