One of things I like most about F1 is sound. How are these cars going to sound with a 2.2 liter V6 only revving to 10k with turbos?

 

I am sure the greenies would still complain about the emmissions.

 

Yeah, I think corn can be used to make ethanol instead of coal, which is used mostly for now. Make sure the drivers in Bahrain don't take a few shots of that EtOH.

 

I think the liberal application of EtOH would do the whole region some good.

I like how the correlation to smaller engine size, and a change in fuel, results in poorer racing? So long as F1 and cars in general stick with the combustion engine im happy, god forbid an all out electric race car.....

 

im all for the smaller engines and turbos etc... awd... that is a differnt story. Also, alternative fuel would be ok.

I agree that formula one should and could infulence the future of technology in automobiles... but honestly i wouldn't want a v-6 bio fuel awd ferrari...

there just isn't anything sporty about the proposed new regulations...

for crying out loud stop with the aero cut backs! i would like to be able to purchase a car thats aero dynamics were developed from f1 technology... but more importantly technology that works really well... not the best that an engineer had time to do with only x amount of wind tunnel time. I think that is a step backwords. Im okay for limiting sizes of spoilers etc... that makes them work harder... but give the guys some time to design some really trick stuff!

 

Don't have any problem with smaller engines and fuel ... but as always have big problems with artificial restrictions, ie. rev limits and number of cylinders.

Instead they should simply set the fuel tank size, or use per race and engine size and then let the engineers find the ideal solution.

The internal combustion engine that we know is prehistoric. The only reason it is still around is because of the greedy oil companys. In 25 years they will probably have an engine that you can fit in a suit case that turns out more horses than you could ever imagine. You will more than likely be able to remove it from your family car and plug it right into your sport car and dial up the power. Look how far and how much thinking has changed (or at least the pendulum is going the other way) in the last 6 months. Al Gores documentry has enlightend many. Our technology is doubling almost every 5 years now and they figure that within a decade it will doulble much sooner. Virtually every govt is making major moves to make this a greener planet. Major holdouts seem to be the US and China as they dont seem to want to clean up their act that quickly. Formula 1 will always be around. The only thing up in the air is which manufacturers will make the changes quick enough to adapt. In the end there will be big profits for the companies that do....ie Toyota.

 

i just understand why FIA keeps on meddling with the rules every now and then.

 

They should lift all the regulations and let them go back to V12's with all the new technology and let it be an all out best of the best on 4 wheels.

THEN

The FIA can have a new race league that races environmental friendly cars more similar to road cars. Call it E1 or something.

Just because they want to race cars that are better for the environment doesn't mean they have to ruin F1.

 

I completely agree. This idea sucks. Max will be on my hitlist if this idea gets through. I might also stop watching F1. We might be looking wistfully back on the days when the cars went 200mph at Monza....

 

With F1 being at the forefront of technology today i think its a great idea. Personally if they went with biofuels and raced with them it would eventually trickle down, even quicker, to production cars... As much as we love racing these days, we have to consider the fact that change is a good thing, Especially when it comes to protecting our environment!!!

In Can-Am, where the Monsters used to run, UOP (Shadow) ran unleaded fuel in a time when it was unheard of. Breaking barriers and introducing a product to the masses.
F1 is said by many to be the technological leader in Automobile engineering; Take the lead.
To those who complain of # of cylinders; does it really matter as long as the speed is there ?

 

I think you are onto something. Maybe they can use the same propulsion they use on the Flintstones.

I think we should either go back to V10s or just add turbos to the existing V8 engine and lift this stupid engine freeze. This sport is supposed to showcase the pinnacle of speed and precision, not environmental friendliness, safety, and fuel mileage.
