    This would be in a salvage car so we are not concerned about originality. Assume the car is bought cheaply, under $45k for a 1998 spider. Everything but the paddles works. The trans will shift, it can be actuated if voltage is applied directly. The prior owner has tried many new parts and has given up. Since we preferr the manual shift, what about a change over ? So.... assuming used parts are available, what would it take? I guess I may find a taker for the F1 stuff that is usable. Does anyone feel this would this be a viable solution?.

    Since I like to be more involved the operation of the car, I think you'd be making the car better-more of a drivers' car-which is exactly what it is. Congratulations on being freed of the tyranny of "dollar value".

    old school 6 spd with a foot working the clutch? I do that every day in my daily driver. But paddle shifting a 6-spd with an electro-hyrdaulic clutch like F1? Now that's special :)

    But to the original question...I have no idea how that'd work. It seems like a huge change, not just the mechanics but the ECU too...

    If you want stick, buy a 348.

    355 = F1

    Just a guess, but I think that would be a disaster to try. You would need to change over the center console. Then run the linkage through the firewall back to the transmission. Not sure what the engine change would be, but I would bet a clutch and ECU swap would be in order. Perhaps someone would know if the mounting on the engine is different. Also curious is this would affect the gas tank as well. Also need to check on the mounting of the transmission, are the mounts the same for an F1 and a stick? More work than I would do for this. Keep it original.

    If you've seen that happen in person, then simply get an electronics guy to wire up paddle switches to send power directly to those leads you speak of. Problem solved for about $500.

    Otherwise, for about $10,000 you could hire Vildini Motorsports to swap in an RB26DETT :)

    PAR8HD,
    Thanks for the tip, on my way now to buy a clutch and remove that pesky torque converter, If you need a spare I will sell it to you real cheap...

    Thank you wingfeather. Now how about we skip the simple electronics guy, and for $500 you just ride along back there and when I yell out "SHIFT" you just touch the wires together real quick like...

    P.S. .... Do not worry, I will keep the RPM's down...I promise...

    Good comeback. Me thinks that hardwired would not allow for proper order and timing that is software controlled. Any other suggestions?
