Yeah, I missed the FedEx delivery yesterday (signature required); they're supposed to redeliver it today, but online tracking doesn't show it on the truck... I'm on the phone trying to check on it now!

Got the rebuilt WUR (thanks Larry! core will ship tomorrow) and installed it in place of the old one as a simple swap of lines and fittings... simple enough for even me.

The car started RIGHT UP, and it definitely got rid of the running rough when cold issue, and also seems to have corrected the hot restart problem... so the presumption is that it's also going to take care of the problem of not being able to get the A/F ratio correct, but I won't be able to measure that until next week.

Just to throw fuel on the fire....

A long time ago I built a turbo into a CIS system, and we simply swapped 911 Turbo CIS injectors into the unit (a std 911 type) to get acceptable fueling (it was a very strange bird-a Lotus europa with a 13B rotary, and single turbo running with 911 CIS)...also did use a rising rate FPC that referenced boost, and it worked fine. The CIS injector simply has a hole, more pressure to it means more fuel comes out. (*to a point)

I would toss in that there are a great number of Porsche tuners out there that extracted alot of power from CIS injected 911 Turbos.

I am sure they have some simple tricks to increase the fuel vs air volume settings. If its not heresy to contact them, i would

It seems that a 9th injector could be plumbed into the system, (spliced from any injector fuel line) and/or there are many aftermarket single or multiple boost referenceing injector drivers out there.

    Cheers
    Eric

At least you can drive and enjoy it now.

I'm still dying to see were the boost is....and still thinking you're around 6+/- . I think you'll see about 280-300rwph when you're all done tuning and get the boost up to 8 or so.

I agree that the Porsche folks have blazed many trails - I certainly used their experiences swapping the CIS for Webers. I read almost all of the tech stuff in the Porsche mag Excellence every month - much much better than its sister pub Forza in that respect. The tuning covered is often directly applicable in concept.

There ALREADY is a ninth injector - the cold start valve is an injector that sprays into the plenum. I always thought you could some how use it to strengthen mixture - not sure how even the mixture would be, though.

I love this thread - while not interested in supercharging our Mondial, the information and lessons here are terrific.
    Good luck!

If you look at some of the Porsche boards you will see the name "Imagine Auto" come up as a leader in modified 930s and modified CIS.

I am the one that builds thier modified fuel distributors, and some of the same things we do for the 930's we are doing for Mike's car. We can give it more fuel than it can use, It's been done many times on the 930s. Now Mike just needs to get back on the dyno with the new parts so we can see if any adjustments need to be made.

Funny! Today, actually, my daughter's boyfriend asked me to take him for a ride (he's driven the car a few times pre-supercharger)... so today, I got to be Batman! :p

Suercharger is running fantastic, and the car can accellerate like the Batmobile compared to the way it was stock. It's going in this week to get the gauges hooked up (I've done the mounting and electrical, but I'll let the mechanic run the boost and a/f sensor lines back to the engine bay). Boost sensor line will be run from the plenum (post throttle-body). MAYBE get to the dyno if I'm lucky this week.

Still have a bit of a hot restart problem unrelated to the supercharger... I haven't gone under the car to test the old one but I'm presuming I need a new fuel accumulator ... I've got the Bosch p/n and the Mercedes cross-ref (Bosch 0438170004, Mercedes 0004760121), but can't find one less than $150, and as often as not they're quoted at over $200! That seems outrageous for such a simple part that was used on a number of cars apparently including Porsches and VWs too.

Speaking of the Porsche Mag Excellence, just saw an ad in this month's issue that a vendor is advertising they will have a DIGITAL programmable warm up regulator for the K-Jetronic CIS cars. should be applicable to the 308/328, I would think.

This could be a K-jet tuner (and supercharger) key tool in mixture control!

Yes this is the one I have been talking to Scott about. I talked with these people last year and set them up with Imagine Auto for the testing and dyno work and they have been working together on it. I thought they would have finished it by now but I am still waiting on the prototype.

A very interesting concept and definitely something I would want if it works as advertised.

I do have a concern about the printed circuit board (where the wires come out). Does that actually stay open?? Is there some sort of cover? I realize there is an LED on the board which should be visible but leaving that exposed seems like a really bad idea. I would also replace the old school electrical connector with something weatherproof. I suppose they used what they used to make it plug and play.

All-in-all it seems like a great idea.

From the pix in their manual, It looks like the circuit board is embedded in a clear materiial.

Not a bad idea, but then reversing the change becomes an issue.

    Mike,Scott,Larry,
I'm confused about one point, from the data it looks like the lambda system is disabled & the system is running in 'basic' mode like the Euro CIS. Is this the case?

BTW, does anyone have a schematic of the lambda system control box?
I'd like to take a look at it to see if there's a way change the closed loop AFR. If so, then the lambda system would help the WUR keep an optimum AFR.

My problem was the the WUR wasn't functioning well at all. Now that I've swapped out to one that Larry rebuilt, it seems much better, though of course I haven't actually measured the A/F yet. But I *am* currently using lambda. I do have a non-lambda fuel distributor and I plan to swap out soon.

You can't really compleatly disable the lambda, you can make it run in the cold mode whitch runs the frequency valve at 50%. This gives you a A/F ratio in the 14s. The problem is getting a pressure drop in the lower chamber at the same rate as the upper chamber. I don't think you could do it even with the frequency valve open full time.

Also I talked with Bob Beckmann about the circuit board and he said to modify it would require another circuit board to read a wide band sensor and then overide the stock circuit to control the frequency valve under boost.

Maybe a thin coat of varnish-like substance but I would not be comfortable with that alone. Maybe a plastic window with a rubber seal would be good.

I'm not sure what you mean by reversing the change or why you would want to. The connector I see in the photos does not look like it is the same as the original one on the F-car anyway so you're going to have to change something.

I put all the ProSport gauges in over the weekend, and got their electrical hooked up. The car is at the shop today to get wires cleanly run to the engine bay inputs (O2 sensor for A/F, and boost gauge sensor), along with some other misc while it's there (including installing windage tray upgrade while doing oil change, and check and likely replace fuel accumulator to hopefully finally fix what's left of the hot start issue). With the gauges in, hopefully we can do some tuning BEFORE going back to the dyno.

Looking forward to that. Of course, I'll be measuring boost off the plenum after the throttle body, but it would also be interesting to see what it is coming right out of the supercharger. I don't know what pressure the blow-off valve is set to dump out at (Scott?)... but I can hear it doing its job between shifts under load.

Tested the fuel accumulator... it holds pressure fine, so that's not it. We're now thinking that the hot start problem may be in the cold start injector circuit and it's spraying all the time. Got the system good and hot, and had trouble restarting it... then pulled the wire off the cold start injector and the engine fired right up. Of course, the question also arises, does a system with positive pressure (supercharged) even *need* a cold-start injector? We'll see how it is first thing in the morning. Even if the engine starts fine without the cold-start injector *now*, that doesn't mean it still will in winter temperatures...

New annoyance, though again unrelated to the supercharger itself... the sender on the new boost gauge seems to be bad. Have to send it back for replacement.
