The track is clearly unsuited to the sport. However it's a legend and an institution. How about keeping it on the calendar but awarding NO POINTS for it. The teams would race for glory, sponsorship exposure and testing?

    unthinkable.

Monaco (1929) with Indianapolis (1909) are the oldest motor races.

and much of racing drivers like the Monaco Grand Prix. To win in Monaco is a very greatest memory/moment for a racing driver.

Monaco 2007 was the ugliest, most inanely boring car race I've ever watched. Not a SINGLE overtaking manouvre, not even an ATTEMPTED overtaking in the whole 78 laps!!!

If F.1 continues like this it is a totally pointless sport. I wish the old wigs that hold grip on F.1 power retired and left the management of F.1 to younger people (how about to MS himself?) motivated by something other than money, and finally got rid of the multi-billion motorhomes to concentrate on making F.1 once again a MOTOR SPORT. As it is, it is useless, and Monaco is the pinnacle of modern F.1's uselessness.

I propose a rule: any track where there are less than 10 overtaking manouvres during the race should be banned for the next GP season. This should shake things out...

No, no. Monaco would still be a race, just no points will be awarded, but trophies, yes.

Why not just have them run 2 litre four-cylinders in Monaco? ;)

Heck, put them out there in production cars. Alonso in an SL, Fisi in a Clio, Massa in a 433, Rubens in a type-R, Quick Nick in a 5-series, Ralf in a Prius (might not be much slower than the works car :p), Albers in a Laviolette, ...

For that matter, if they're going to a "spec" series in '08, they might as well make it a bicycle race.

    Or pedal cars. :D

They should abandon all aerodynamic regulations and engine regs for this one race, they cars could literally stop on a dime and go 300 mph.

Perhaps it could be renamed a pit crew competition since the only way the top runners can pass is if the pit crew for the guy ahead of him screws up.

If that doesn't work, have the SCCA sanction it as a "solo" category event.

If that doesn't work, award the trophies after qualifying and then have parade laps for the celebrities. That would be simply confirming the reality of the situation.

If it wasn't for points they should make the race for a cash prize, that might promote a bit more overtaking. They could award trophies and money to the top couple finishers, and prizes to the top teams as well. The teams already redesign the cars for this race only, so why not redesign the race as well.

Don't even try to blame the track. Blame the cars and drivers. There are boring F1 races all the time every year.

It's the track that is rubbish. If every overtaking maneouver gives you a 50/50 chance of eating a wall and ruining your day... well, you gonna drive mighty conservatevly.

    Someone is on drugs.

The days of racing for 'the little brown jug' have been long gone 40 years.

Letsee.... several hundred million dollar budget, and we get nothing out of it. 'Prestige' means almost nothing anymore, in any sport. Darts, Bowling, Slot car racing, the pros don't show up for free. nascar has the race at Charlotte that is no points but pays a lot of money, that's as close as you will get.

As I keep saying the cars are so equal (for the most part) that you get on a surface such as Monaco, and you get what you get.
    'Testing' ? What for ?

And we would not be having this discussion if a Ferrari had won, right ?

Like I said, blame the cars. They rely on aero too much, but thankfully Monaco favors mechanical grip just a little more so we get small teams like Williams doing better than normal (since their aero sucks). The problems is that there is no more parity in F1.

No one cares if someone does an on-track pass from #18 to #17. There's very little position changes at the front because the cars aren't that close in performance. McLarens were obviously better than the Ferraris, which are obviously better than the BMW Saubers at Monaco (throw in Renault there, too). If you want to see some more passing for the top 3 spots, than make the cars rely more on mechanical grip.

It is the cars not the circuits. There is hardly any passing in F1 anywhere

Yup, which is why it can be so frickin boring at 3AM and put you to sleep. They need to create an unknown variable that the teams can't prepare for, like watering down the course and running on dries, anything to allow passing and show driver skills.

Monaco may have the "old" (fact that it is one of the oldest race events in the circuit) factor going for it but that is all it has... Oh yeah, it also has the bling factor... Like celebrities who think their crap dont stink -that walk the grid before the race and don't talk to TV announcers (like Peter Windsor)... IT's all hipe and bling there at Monaco and all ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ for those of us true racing fans.......
It's a pretty realistic statement saying that wherever you qualify (position) is typically where you are going to finish in this race.....
It is (imo) the only race on the circuit i don't put to much energy into watching..
