Contemporary cars are not an investment. Agreed.

But some benchmark classics really are serious investments. And they also are the joyful experience and example of historical significance of lamborghini as you speak of.

On the price, I meant at the time of my purchase, which was quite some time before the sale of the purple at 185K( which I remembered)... the prices of the 6.0 and the se30 were fairly closely priced not enough to make an impact in my decision.. But as I stated before, I have had little interest on the value of the vehicle and did not know of its most current pricing... (perhaps its because I have little interest in selling) But, thanks Roy, interesting to know about current SE30 pricing info... And also, it is extremely low slung and fun..isnt it.. :) Nice go karty type of feelin... Hope you post some feedback on how it compares to the gt... My guess is that on paper it should be very close apart from the power because from what I heard the gt chassis still used the narrower tube chassis vs the wider chassis that the 6.0. used...

I personally prefer not to consider them as investments because once I purchase a car i want, very highly unlikely I will sell em... So, if that is the case, that is an investment that I wont see any return on lol...

Joe, I will make you a copy, no problem.

I was offered a price way north of 200K but I won't sell it. The car is that unique to drive. It reminds me a bit of my F40 but a little easier to drive. There is no substitute for light wieght and with safety regulations going nuts, we will never see cars like this again.

Agreed. The chassis of the SE is very special as we have discussed. And it was built in that 'interim' period after Chrysler got out and the Italians had 'carte blanche' to make the Diablo closest in spirit to the lightweight 4-liter Countachs, before the Germans got in. And to make sure you never forget, there is that original 1963-on period horn-buttom in the steering wheel's center to keep you focused (such a cool reminder and nod of respect to the old classics).
This car is truly unique. Look at those mag wheels. The best-looking set of Lamborghini wheels after the iconic Miura set and the seminal Countach units. Look at the slats over the engine bay... can you say Miura? And those competition inspired windows with tiny crank openings - designed I am told to discourage all but the most dyed-in-the-wool sportscar drivers to whom standard comforts would be unimportant. The car is so spartan in the interior that when driving it you have to laugh at the sheer anarchy of simplicity, and at the sound.
Ok, thats enough - enjoy it.

Hands down it would have to be the Diablo models like the early Sv, SE and VT models before 95. Those where the best and most exotic looking.

I am dissapointed at the wasted opportunity to go with 'shag-pile' fluffy carpeting..... and what respectable car doesnt have a steering wheel cover to match the upholstery? Tsk. *sigh*

I owned my F40 and my Diablo SE30 back-to-back but I really must say that the comparison would have to be F40 vs SE30 (as opposed to 'Diablo' in a model-generic sense). In fact, Car & Driver did do a detailed road and track test in 1991 between an early standard Diablo and an F40 and by reading it youll take away the conclusion that the results were embarrassing for the Diablo. But I thinnk the SE30 is fairly close in feel and performance as Keith pointed out, because it is both stripped and focused.

Joe can jump in on this too cause he has had both as well. The F40 is a little more extreme. In a staight line it is faster thatn the SE but not by a whole lot. Handling wise, I prefer the SE, but my car is set up very different than stock and I'm using very soft tires in the Mich Sport Cups. The F40 handles amazing but I prefer normally aspirated to turbo charged. And this just my opinion, but I like to slide the car coming out of turns and I can do it better in the SE than the F40. The thing that is really similar is that in both of these cars, you have to be in the mood to drive. To drive them hard it is work, but well worth it. Not better than newer models, just a different drive. As far as contols go, the F40 is the bigger painin the ass. Getting in is worse, gear change is longer and heavier, clutch is heavier and you still have the bus style steering wheel.
Both cars are truely amazing. They are so raw, so insane, and I love that. And, again just my opinion, they are two of the best looking cars ever. I still grab a cocktail and open the garage just to look.

Wow... that is interesting on se30s going price... I am glad people are finally turned on to it... I think originally many just thought the US version as a stripped down diablo and laden with a standard engine.... And when I first got it and asked a dealer, they said it was the same diablo engine... But upon checking with Valentino, he stated that the engine even for the U.S was not a regular diablo engine... Lamborghini "sneaked in " these 25 cars into the states....:) As to the experience, it indeed is unique to drive. But, actually the experience reminds me of my ct with a bit more refinement and power... Because when u sit in the car, look to the sides, you are reminded the importance of a/c like the countach ...LOL.. And while steering is much lighter, the feel is fairly communicative like the ct as well.... And of course, the power really comes on at mid high rpm like the ct also. Everytime I have driven my ct, and jumped into the se30, it just seems to naturally flow one to the other. The tie in of different generation cars, same marque. Amazing...
