Complaining of no overtaking in F1...

What if they awarded a point or certain amount of point for every car in front of you that you pass? And you get a half of point for back markers? Just a thought.

 

Its a good thought, but I think there would be troubling implementing it. For example Ferrari would probably want to start 11 and 12, so they could adjust their fuel load and pass 5 people easily.

 

Why ?

We just need more 'racing', that's all.

 

All the points in the world do not matter if the track is not condusive to passing, and the cars create so much dirty air behind them.

 

The driver don't pass because they don't want to. They don't pass because they can't.

On 50% of the track a pass is extremely difficult unless a mistake is made by the driver in front. On the other 50% of the tracks, even if a mistake is made the track is either too narrow to get by or there is still too much dirty air or the car in front can accelerate soo quickly that the pass can't be completed.

Awarding points for passing will only make the back markers trip into more people as they try to climb the points standing without really finishing well or at all.

 

Are you talking about points for positions gained, or just for how many other cars you pass on-track? Because what is to stop the Super Aguri drivers from driving around passing each other all day long and running up points?

 

Interesting idea although it would make for some funky strategy.

They need to increase mechanical grip, use slicks and reduce the aero so that they can race and overtaking will occur.

LOL! And they won't be able to tally the final points results until Tuesday.

 

Well, you could still pass your team partner once to get 1 extra point.

So if you're really giving out passing points, these points should only be awarded if you pass a car which doesn't belong to your team.

But seriously, I don't think this should be done. Formula 1 just got more exciting and competitive after Schumacher left.

Now I see good competition between Ferrari and McLaren-Mercedes. BMW is doing very well, and maybe Renault will do a little better as the season moves (I doubt it though)

well, not all is aerodynamics, the tire compounds and all the electric aids plus the ceramic brakes.

if you try to overtaking a car on the first part of the race with cold tires you are out but if you try it in the lap 15 the track is cover of grainin (little rubber marbles) pic #1

About the brakes, is almost imposible to win a place in a brake point, all cars are equipped with a great systems so the brake point for all the cars are the same so you can't change the brake point to win a place and still have a chance to turn right.

About the electric aids well all we know about the TC, ABS, electric gearbox, RPMs limitor, engine brake softwere for each track sector, etc, etc.....

like the idea but then again. everyones thats good is going to want to start at the back just to get alot of points and the laps that determine were u stand in the starting will all be gone and the racing factor will deminish. good idea but alot of problems follow it.

 

I didn't say it would keep the great cars upfront. I just thought it would ensure more passing. That would be another great idea..Lose a point for everytime you are passed. No points for passing or being passed by team mate. Then, we would see drivers taking maybe a few more chances. I think it would make it interesting and add a new challenge. But it would never happen, but is fun to talk about.

 

Here's why it will never happen.

When the Spyker Ferrari cars drop out of the race, they will no longer be passed by others, so they'll just end up with whatever points they died with.

Then the Super-Aguri Honda cars will still be trailing behind, and will be lapped by McLaren-Mercedes cars and several others.

In the end, Super-Aguri Honda will have negative points, and even lower points than Spyker Ferrari !

Lewis Hamilton will win with a gajillion points.

If they wanted to, the need to go look at the cars of the 60's and 70's and see what made racing truly great.

I don't see how you can RACE anybody when your power curve is above 14,000 RPMS, that's gotta suck. Badly.

As I said, nobody wants to go back to DFV's and Flat-12's. (well, except for me).

 

I'm with you all the way, and I've imagined every way 'til Sunday how it could happen. But it won't. I'm actually beginning to believe in the reversed grid idea based on Championship standings. Use Friday and Saturday for testing or whatever, but line 'em up backwards and force the good guys to dice through the not-so-good guys. It's artificial, but it would be interesting to watch.
