Clutch used in 360 Challenge race cars

Does anyone know if it's a different clutch disc than the street cars? I'm going to have to replace my factory clutch at some point here and I thought perhaps either the Challenge cars used a more durable clutch disc and/or pressure plate and/or maybe there was something available after market?

Does anyone have any info?

They use a different material for the race clutches but they go faster not longer so you probably want to stay away from that.
I also have a company in CA that has resurfaced our race clutches, actually rebuilt them. I cannot give you too much feedback on that yet but so far they work well.

Long story short, for the street cars you will have to bite the bullet and buy a Ferrari one.
I assume you have a F1 that is why you think they go fast. Go to a qualified shop to have the clutch put in on an F1 car. One that has the SD2. Without it you cannot set the F1 to the right settings and will burn up the clutch in a matter of a few miles again.

 

I have a 6 speed manual actually. On the company in CA that resurfaced the clutch disc, what material did they use? Thanks for the info on the challenge parts.

If you have a 6-speed then you have driven your car 15K or more....first off: CONGRATULATIONS!

The company we used was clutchnet based out of Annaheim if I remember correctly. (I can give you the info on Monday from the office). We used a metallic clutch that is similar to Indy clutch material since that is what they are doing mostly, building Indy clutches.

As I said, not the best use for street cars. You chew through the flywheel quicker etc. Its like putting race pads on your brakes to drive to work. not just that you are actually decreasing your stopping ability, you also damage your rotors. Racing, you calculate to use a new rotor every 1000miles. I am sure you don't expect that from your street car. (at least I hope not )

 

What size clutches are they, 5.5"

Definitely not worth using carbon/carbon clutches.

The new composite rotors are showing pretty good life under racing conditions. I'd imagine 1000 miles on a challenge car would not be too bad. Performance Friction also has some new technology, helping extend rotor life and consistency.

 

I heard of the new PF stuff. Will be interesting to see what they do in real racing. Our Porsche team is unsing PF for brakes and they have some good life in them.

Not sure what size they are. Would have to check with the guys at the shop.
