I think the extra heat shielding is due to the air pump making the exhaust manifolds hotter than normal. I would still put the shorter shield in with the spun insulation. If you aren't installing the air pump propbably don't truly need the extra insulation.

Jon - I would add the second heat shield, if for no other reason than to protect the wiring. It will also protect the foam, which does have a heat limit of 200+ F.

    Jon,
My '72 GT only has one layer of aluminum. You should not need any more now that the air pump is out and the headers are not running red at all times. Especially at low speed where there is no airflow through the engine compartment. Only heat shield I have is some fiberglass tubing over the battery cable going to the starter solenoid and a piece of aluminum over the front header, just under the alternator/water pump belt. The belt got a little warm but everything else has been fine. If you tracked the car, starter and alternator heat shields would make sense. Not necessary for highway driving, even very spirited, even in the high desert. The visibility and easy access without the shields is worth a lot when you do your own work.

The color is fantastic in the sun. They did a wonderful job polishing it out. Seems like adding the suspension parts would go easier on the rotisserie but maybe the weight would be getting up there. Or is the hold down mechanism in the way? Looking Good!

    John

The rotisserie bolts go to where the suspension bolts are, so it has to come off when I get to that point. Vacation to Santa Fe, New Mexico next week, then I'm going to tackle the wiring

Jon - give me a call when you are ready to install the wiring loom. If available, I will come down and lend a hand. Having built my own, I dream in color-codes and crimps.

I started the wiring yesterday. It reminds me of the body exhibit I just went to. It's a show with cadavers dissected. One cadaver had it's total nervous system exposed with all the nerves from head to toe. That's what my wiring harness looked like. I remembered where most of it goes from taking it all out. I do have a few questions which I'll get Jim Selevan to help me out on. I started from the fuse box and first worked towards the front of the car and I'm now working on the bundle that runs across the dash, and down the center of the passenger compartment.

    Progress looks great!

Do I see the correct sheathed brown w/black stripe wire for the interior ventillation fan?
Amazing detail that you would preserve the factory color coding...very impressive.

I love the blue EPDM hoses frome the brake master cylinder, one of the best safety improvements you can make to the car.

Does the Dino have an inner wheel well cover for the right front wing? (covering healight housing and heater fan.)
My Dino does not have one, and I have been watching Jon's pictures hoping to catch this detail.
I would love to find one, or see a picture of one to aid in fabrication.
I bought a mystery "Dino?" right front wing wheel well cover on e-bay several years ago. It was close and Ferrari, but definately not for the Dino.
    thanks,
    Jon

My 74 has them made out of sheet metal and the 73 I have has them made out of fiberglass. I have seen them on the Superfornance website.

My 73 has fiberglass rear wheel well covers. The left front wing cover is steel with rubber weatherstripping. I will be most interested to see pictures of your wheel well cover Jon.
thanks for the reply, and keep up the great documentation.
I am ordering my CD of your restoration now. Please let me know when they are available.

Forgive my ignorance but what are "blue EPDM hoses"?

Jon has used the correct hoses for brake fluid from the master cylinder made of EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer).

Not all hoses are the same; fuel lines and brake lines are different and using fuel lines made of butyl or neoprene based compounds for brakes can have tragic results.
When buying koses/lines be sure to alert your parts retailer on the application.

More wiring today. Emergency brake switch, gearbox switches, seat belt buzzer, tail lights, brake lights, reverse light, washer pump, brake pressure, brake switch. I also got the windshield wiper motor in and tested so the wipers sweep properly. I ran the wiring to the fuel pump and ran all the wiring that goes to that side of the car, then put the second firewall over the wiring and up 18" how mine came originally. I put 1/2' thermal insulation in between. The next project is the radiator fan motors and radiator. I have to put the rear inner fender in to affix the wiring that goes above it. Oh by the way, last Friday I got to test drive a Bugatti Veryon at Symbolic Motors. They had a Porsche race driver who took you out and explained everything then turned the car over to you. 1001 horsepower.

Just a thought looking at those aluminum panels. Have you thought about possible harmonic resonances? There are certainly ways to dampen those out that would be much easier to put in place now. (Or maybe you already did and I missed it.)

    Jon,
After chasing wires in my GT, playing with the car on the rotisserie is definitely cheating. Great foresight in putting that thing together. Pictures look just fine. Did you get your camera back, get the new one, or just did a great job with what you had? Keep on rolling.

They're backed with foam insulation and this is what was originally on the car with no problem.

Jon - sorry that I have been off-line for a while. I was in a race to get my Alpine ready for the Los Angeles Concours. It was simple to put together when compared to the Dino.

Call if you need help with the electrics.
