I saw about 7k rpm around 160 mph. Barely glanced, no time to stare.

170mph in a 575....although according to what I've heard, it was probably really only about 155mph, since the speedos are always so far off.

7100-7200 rpm in 5th gear in my '76 308 which comes out to a shade over 150mph. That was at 2400 feet above sea level elevation outside Las Vegas headed n/b on hwy 95. Car was still pulling well.

I did 240km/h according to the tach on my '77 308GTB. There would have been power for more but it was scaring. It gets very light at that speed. My Porsche 944 is much better for that kind of speed (Did it over a long time on some occations on the german Autobahn) but the Ferrari is definatly more fun on small curvey roads.

I am thinking of having TWD (trans warp drive) installed aftermarket in my 360 Spider. If so, I should be able to hit some amazing speeds on a straightaway.

Yes, the gearing for the early 308s is just a shade taller than the later cars. The gearing shows a early stock 308 will go 147mph @ 7k rpm. Early Euro cars had even taller gearing and did 153mph @ 7k rpm. Rejetting my carbs *really* opened up its potential.

My 308 was very solid at top speeds. More solid than any car I have ever driven at high speeds. I had my '86 911 up to about 140mph and it was really starting to make me worry, but I think that was due to the tires. A tire swap might help with your lift at high speeds.

The aerodynamics of the 86 911 (and its weight dirstibtion) is nowhere near that of the 944.
That is very possible. The tires are very old and will soon be changed.

American V8s just don't do it for me. Plus, I thought the thread said,"highest speed obtained in your Ferrari". ZO6s are very impressive beasts though.

It did but I have not had the ferrari that high. about 135 for the 69 365. note that I now track the car and don't do such foolish things on the street anymore. A much smarter way to go.

For the most part, I am in total agreement. However, there are some safe places to open up these cars. 95 n/b outside of Las Vegas is a barren wasteland in the desert, and the road is really nice. no surprises.

Fastest was in 1974 in a Ferrari 512 LeMans prototype...225 mph ...noisy, the whine of that 12 cylinder was amazing...but the car felt stable, not on the edge the way the Porsche 917 was at speed.

Same with my 84 before I replaced the springs and shocks, it's good right to redline now :)
