A stupid speedo question...

When my speedo stopped working I replaced the sender but that didn't solve the problem and I decided I didn't need it anyway, just drive on the tacho (the speed curve was kindly posted on this website by Miltonian) but in traffic the 'other cars' theory works well also!

 

My Speedometer actually reads correct (Sort of). I have checked my Speedometer with a Garmin 496 GPS that I use in my Bonanza. I have found that the Speedometer actually lags the actual speed by about 20 MPH while accelerating. When I am at 60 MPH per the Garmin, the Speedo reads 40. If I stabilize at say 70 MPH, then in about 30 seconds the speedometer will catch up and read 70.
If I slow down to 60 MPH, the speedometer will start to move a few seconds later and read 60 in about 5 seconds.

Not sure, what is happing here but I do not care anyway.

 

My speedo actually works too, albeit a bit optimistic (over-readying by about 10 to 15 kph). I probably need to break it though, as my insurance covers only 7000 km per year (4375 miles), and I've already done that in 4 months!

Wow that is crazy. I experience the same sort of thing, not only with the speedo, but sort of with the tach as well. The car steadily accelerates, but the tach seems to go around the clock slower, then faster, and repeats. The tach only does this when I really give it the beans in first and second gear. When doing acceleration runs, the g-tech meter reads that I am doing 60mph when the speedo says only 56-57ish. On slower acceleration, it is a non-issue.

Not an issue since my car is an 'orphan' that no-one looking for a garage queen would consider anyway. I have all my receipts and they'd only have to ask anyone in SE Qld to find out the car is DRIVEN! Anyway the car won't be sold until I'm too old and decrepit to handle it or can't afford the fuel (whichever comes first!).

and only 17K on #20405...that cannot be right, the instument is new!
probaly about 33K total ther i'd wager....

so it's all about the same...

 

Will be age: ya' know: never looked at the price when filling up, nor even know the mileage of the car.....

 

Talked to my Dad the other day, he's pretty old now, he asks "So how high has gas gotten to be down there?" My repy, "Don't know Dad, I never look at the price. When the tank is down to 1/4 I see a station and pull in. What am I going to do drive 5 miles out of the way to save 2 cents a gallon on a 20 gallon fill up? It doesn't matter what it costs right now. I'm going to pay it and the oil companies know it."

Both speedos seem to work fine, tach in #2 car stopped taching, hope that MSD 6A didnt blow it out. But....

Last fall I put over 400 miles on the car on my birthday. The next day I went out to check the mileage, and it was lower than I recalled seeing on it before I got home. Significantly lower. Maybe if Enzo likes you he rolls your mileage back when your out tooling around. Like maybe short trips to the store piss him off, so you get thrice the miles, but take a good long weekend and run her hard, you get only a quarter the miles. Or less. or more. I mean its electric, it can do anything it wants to, or anything the voices in its head tell it to. My God, the guy has a speedo that dont record mileage and hes complaining, LOL.
