naw, with him on ignore he only gets one line, and i skim over the quoted stuff as i could care less about him or his thoughts, feeling, emotions.... .... just words on a page baby. by the way i also bought the BB512 book that Nathan wrote, another great source and a opportunity to help a fchatter. may or may not look for a bb365 or carb bb5122 this year, but i will have a great read either way. and when Joe S. writes his Miura / Countach book(s) i will be happy to buy them also. maybe phe-lonolic will write.... "something" and add to the ferrari / lamborghini database he thinks should be kept secret? or maybe not..... good work Dave. and if ya do one on GTB's, 1976-1977 i have a bazillion files saved on my 300 gig backup spare hard drive somewhere i can share, free.
365BB. Ooooohhhh! Now THAT's a car I'd really like to own. There was a blue one in Texas (IIRC), last year, for about $70K. Now they're thru-the-roof. and I can't (or rather "won't") afford one. Re: Phylotic You know; It's really too bad he came in here with malintent. He has a very nice car, that was adequately acknowledged as such, prior to being given a full, fair and adequate discussion of it's merits and potential. Perhaps he could have contributed something useful to the board. Now of course, he's only succeeded in severley compromising his integrity, and severley marginalizing his significance. I think that's a pretty deep hole to have to dig yourself out of. And if he no longer owns (as was suggested earlier) the car, it's hardly worth the effort (IMHO) to try. I think it might be better for him to cancel his account and come back later with a new attitude and a new name. Like maybe Olcz.... <pause>.. uhmmmm... Hmmmmm.... Well, maybe not!
Is it just me (I have been accused of being slow at times) or is that guy phyllic_something_or_other just getting harder and harder to fathom? http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=fathom DD: Yep, we need to do something rash before Dave loses his winemaking license.
yep, ive been on here along time, and i go out of my way not to get into pissing matches with folks, but to keep finding thread after thread where someone i "know" as a member / screen name is bieng chased, with the Mods not doing anything, kind of bothered me. we are such a small group of fans, ( not just on this message board ) that i dont see how or why anyone that does have rights to those pics and whatnot would do anything other than ask Dave to remove them. hell i would rather have my cars data known and shared. but what do i know, i just work on Jets....
GT4 content : wonder if i should have kept both of these. had less than $32k in BOTH.... my dumbass wanted a Jalpa, that turned out to hate me.... no more USA spec Lambos for me , euro cars only! OK, I guess I'll chime in, for no other reason than I've been a long time f-Chatter. Maybe there are issues with permissions, possible copytight, etc in Dstacy's work. HOWEVER: 1) He spent alot of time getting this data together. His time is valuable, and I feel that he is entitled to receive some compensation from others who would like to have the info he worked on to get. How much is his time worth? $10? $20?, $25? I don't know. But, when you consider Ferrari prices in general, I think $25 for this information is reasonable. This isn't a huge money making venture. How many people do you think will actually buy a copy? How much will he "profit"? I'm guessing not a whole lot. Definately not enough to buy a GT4. 2) I've read many of his posts on this forum, and believe that he is a valuable contributer to this site. His presence here has improved the tech available. So, what the hell, throw him a bone If you think the data might be of interest to you, or even if you dont, you could find worse ways to spend $25. 3) I hereby authorize Dstacy to use any photos, info about my 308 GT4, #10688. I don't know if you have any of these photos, but there are a bunch available at http://photos.yahoo.com/drtoxicologist 4) Originally, I wasn't planning to buy a copy of this CD, since I'm not really a serial# kind of guy. However, I think it might be a nice addition to my collection of GT4 related materials, so I am reconsidering it. Maybe it will make a nice father's day gift (hint, hint, if my wife is reading this). Good Luck, Dom
Just for the record, I also think Prophylactic or whatever has issues. He is acting like a stalker. I also think that what dstacy has done is great, it is hard to get all that stuff together and it is great to have it and surf it, as I have done with the on-line GT4 registry. I also don't know exactly what is on dstacy's cd - I haven't seen it. But _if_ it has copyrighted material on it, it isn't right. I heard a bunch of cool songs on the radio and taped them off the air and arranged them into a mix of my own. Anybody can do that, it's all public and free, right? I burn them to CD and sell them on e-bay. Think RIAA and ASCAP and record labels would drop me a note and ask me to stop? I mean, I went to the trouble of recording them and mixing it and burning it on CD. Is it not mine to sell? No, it's not, in fact I'm not even legally allowed to _give_ the CDs away for free. I guess what I'm saying is that yes, he's acting like a psycho, yes, I like the database, yes, I'd like one, yes, I think it and dstacy are cool, yes, it is not that much money, yes, it's mostly harmless, and yes, unfortunately I think he's got a point. What's funny is what trips it over the line for me is that it is for sale. The funny part is that that part is irrelevant. If he got all this stuff together and made a web page I don't think I would have thought twice about it, but the legal issues (if in fact there _are_ any issues - I haven't seen the CD, so I assume it is all ok) are there even if it is a web page. I would surf the web page and never give it a thought. Ok, so now I've typed way too much about all this, I just want to say my underwear isn't all in a knot about it. I'm glad that dstacy has taken on being the GT4 historian and I thank him for his wonderful contributions to fchat and GT4 brotherhood.
dom >1) He spent alot of time getting this data together. His time is valuable, >and I feel that he is entitled to receive some compensation from others who >would like to have the info he worked on to get. How much is his time worth? As indicated several times, this is true. As true is that if he insists on selling it he should compensate the public registries whose data he has used. This is precisely why selling it makes no sense whatsoever. The only thing Dave owns is his labor, and that is the organization of the data. The data is others'. Whether he decides to continue selling it is his decision, much as it is everyone else's decision whether to buy it or not. In all honesty, I cannot believe we even have to have this discussion. It's just plain common sense. Why the hell would one want to take credit for others' work anyway. I mean, wooow -- is it that difficult to acknowledge, I did this, they did that? brian harper >Just for the record, I also think Prophylactic or whatever has issues. Yep, I think the issue is you don't take others' work and call it your own. Period. This is a collaborative effort not a one man show. End of story. >he's acting like a psycho, Let's refrain from mob action and below the belt baseless nonsense, since one can easily attribute some very colorful adjectives to select others. My observations were 100% correct and impartial to all parties. I have defended others' work as I have defended Dave's contribution. Glad you understood the issues. Now, see if you can make an effort and type or copy paste Phylotic and we're on the same page. I trust that's not above you. >I'm glad that dstacy has taken on being the GT4 historian While that is Dave's objective, he stands on others' legs. Be assured that I am not alone in feeling that he is dead wrong in taking credit for everything. Many people have worked for the data he used and you should not expect them to jump up and down with glee. Being a historian entails acknowledging and referencing others' work, and a simple search on Fchat will clarify who knows what. As an example check the GT4 wheel thread. Twist it however you wish, truth speaks louder than mob action and wishful thinking. Write history. Don't rewrite history. ... how much clearer can it be bunch of juvenile behaviour. It's all mine!! I want it all! I am number one! Pay me!! Give it a rest people. Stand up for what you did. Acknowledge what others did. Unreal
too funny, wish I'd thought of it. Asked and answered several times; it is all public info, or permission granted info. Now I have to say I didn't write Hemmings Motor News or Collector Car Trader to ask if I could use the phone number in the ad to contact the seller to ask about serial numbers, etc. The sources are listed in the "read Me" file. The info from the T group here isn't public info. It isn't for the very reason that is happening here. Nobody wants the backlash they might get from a nut-job. Frankly, hindsight is 20/20, I should have followed thier advice. You know what I think is really funny about psycho dude is he just refuses to accept that answer. I've got him on ignore, but from some of the above comments it looks like he's still at it. I feel sorry for the guy. Its obvious he's got some serious problems. We'll see how long he stays my groupie before he gets banned, gets tired, or picks one of you guys. Well thanks for the kind words. We've been talking about this in the subscribed forum. If I had to do over again I'd keep it to myself, which I've already started doing. This is a hobby and its supposed to be fun. It is anything but when you have a mentally derranged stalker on your tail. I'm very dissappointed that the forum mods have let this go, it clearly violates the rules.
Off topic just a bit, but not very much... Most people don't realize how much of thier personal info is available to ANYONE who asks for it. I'm checking out another Jag. 3/4 of the states have this service. You don't have to be a resident of the state to get this info, just fill out the forms. The DMV websites have them online. Wait 2 weeks and what do you get? COPIES of all of the titles issued in that state. Yes copies. The PO's signature is there, address, where he bought it, how much he paid, and on and on. This is the reason I never store my cars at the address where I register them.
We don't. That's why it has been suggested that you be put on ignore. If you were truely here to add something positive to the disucssion, than I'm sure you would have done it by now. People who have something truely good to share, often find it difficult to refrain from doing so, when given ample opportunity. You currently have less than 30 posts. Far more than half of them are dedicated to trying to discredit Dave Stacey in one way or another. Which begs the question, "Why?". And since we all (now ) know the answer to that question, I suggest you begin trying to improve your contribution to FChat. Others have been banned it seems (to me) for less. Then again, maybe that's just my opinion. You brought up an intertesting point. It's been acknowledged as such. And I believe Dave has tried to answer it. One of the keepers of the registries you mentioned has also chimmed-in. I don't know what Peter or Gerrit think of Dave's work, but Dave has indicated that he has been helping to get all three "in synch". And if he want's to ask for a little compensation for "his work", then I say, "Kudo's!". He deserves it. What he does not deserve, it to be stalked by someone like you. Who apparently has not seen his CD and therefore can only offer conjecture and wild guessing at what he has claimed to have written, disclosed, or otherwise used with or without permission or properly citing his sources. Without any episimalogical proof, your point (if there really was one) becomes meritless. And in my opinion, as you continue, you tread dangerously close to slander. If indeed Dave has followed proper procedure an exercised due diligence in compiling what he has put on his CD, then it is you sir who are out of line. If not legally, then most certainly "socially". The difference between you and Dave, is that Dave has sought to "contribute" to the community. You (so far as I can see) have not. You have only succeeded in dressing yourself in world of criticism and questioned motives. -You are certainly "stalking" Dave's posts. As simple review of your posts proves it. -You are plainly more "combative" than "concilliatroy" in your posts. That too is a demonstrable observation. -You have garnered some of the harshest criticism I have ever seen a newcomer recieve in his first 25-30 posts, without being banned. I don't need to repeat them. -You've been asked nicely and not so nicely to simply shut-up. And yet you persist. And have the nerve to proffer that self-righteous oxymoron: Like I said, "we don't". So drop it. If your issue is what is really suspected, then make your feelings known in that thread instead, where your real displeasure with Dave can be appropriatley addressed. But to continue to do what you have been doing; While having the apperance of being something new, specific and unrelated to your other issue, is really (IMHO) an attempt to obscure the use of an ad hominem to facilitate your response to your bruised ego on another topic, and to do so in a very broad manner for increased impact and effect. It's an interesting tactic. But once exposed, it is apt to marginalize you more than help you in the pursuit of your goal. You seem fairly intelligent, Mr. Dan. So maybe you can understand this: The easiest way to save face, is to keep the lower half shut. I suggest you start improving your image. Because I right now? It sucks. Wow...looks like I'm really late to the party on this one! Sorry I missed all the excitement. Harper - ...."Prophylactic" - now *that's* funny, man! On a more personal note, I understand the difference between right and wrong. I will even go so far as to say Dave *might* be in the wrong here, technically speaking, but I'll go further and say, "I don't care." There are teenagers being abducted and murdered, madmen trying to acquire nuclear weapons in the world, heiresses being incarcerated (oh for God's sake - just found out she was released) (), and we're sniveling over some serial numbers and a spreadsheet?!?
Well said DDriver, well said. Thanks BTW, I sent my grand-daughter the picture of you in the engine bay with the snorkel that you sent to me. Remember she is 7. You're going to love her reply. "Grandpa he's funny, next time I'm at your house let's take him for ice cream" .
Dave, you do nice informative work. IMHO your product is sort of like the Birdman's fuse blocks,,, developed out of an interest and offered to satisify a need or interest. Poeple have a choice to buy or not to buy, just as they have a choice to read F-chat posts or not. There are a lot of different personalities on F-chat, some more assertive than others. Does not matter. It is the collective inputs from all, some assertivly, some tentatively, some tecnically, some emotionally, that make it all worthwhile and give it substance. It is obvious that this Phsyco guy is just there to stir up trouble and he feeds off of the replies. Better to ignore him. BTW, I have never understood why the F-chat moderator?owner allows poeple that are NOT subscribed to F-chat, to have the rights to reply or post. Where as I like a bit of T&A just like the next guy, you guys are crazy to let these partially clad women sit or lay on your car's deck/"hood". These body parts are made from thin aluminum or steel and dent and bend very easily. And where as the exitement of the moment is a fleeting thing, dents either stay forever or forever spoil the "virginity" of your car.
You're on! "One Black-cherry Cabernet in a waffle-cone, please!". Uh.... You do have those in Texas, right?
Dave, Received both the 308 GT4 and the 400 Series Database CD's. Very nice, thank you. They were of immense help in my search. After two failed tries to bring home a GT4 (both times problems from my end, I am Italian, do not ask) the purchase of 308 GT4 10420 appears to be complete. I am going down to Santa Fe next week to pick it up, photos to follow. Scott B
WOO HOO! Another GT4 going to a new owner who will care about her. Congrats and welcome to the GT4 Mafia. Start a new thread with pictures and stories about the trip.
