I knew you were kidding about the target stuff. I am puzzled though that the 'kids have nothing to do so we need to spend money' thing seems to get dragged out every time there is an incident. In the 60's we heard the same thing. My brother and I never had a problem keeping entertained or busy. And that was with little to no money and no TV. Ah, perhaps that was the key, no TV crap poluting our attitudes.
I built a 15 speed bike (3 speed hub, added 5 sprockets), we built a go kart using 2x3 oak and CTC parts and scrap, we went camping, hiking, etc. In Toronto now there are soooo many things you can do for the cost of a TTC ride to get there and back. I suspect that the TV generation has gotten used to being entertained rather than entertaining themselves.

Yeah, that's what worries me - the huge depreciation. I guess people see it as a fun car for a year then move on to the next thing that turns their crank. It makes me hesitant to buy a new one, but there aren't exactly used ones floating all over the place.

Note that Jeff is in Michigan, where used Elises are down 30% or more from MSRP. Used Canadian Elises seem to be holding strong for now. With limited new deliveries and the US cars not complying with our standards, I can't see the Canadian Elise market tanking quite like they have in the US. Leases on a Canadian lease have exactly a 50% residual after 36 months, but I think you'd be ahead of that...

 

I just realized my original post said i have a UK greencard, I have a US greencard and have been living here in Pennsylvania for 7 years now. Sorry for the confusion. I'll try to let you guys know when i'm up in Canada and perhaps we can meet up somewhere...
