Try lion manure - it scares dogs, and most animals, away very quickly. You get it from passing circus's or the local zoo.

I like cats, have 3 that are strictly indoor, but used to have the same prob when I had to park my prized BMW 635 outside at night. Car cover was the only solution...otherwise, the scratches and prints were inevitable.

That was 10 yrs ago. Since then Dallas has passed no-stray-pet ordinances and has much more effective animal control; there are about 90% less stray cats and dogs visible.

Been living with 3 cats born feral & picked up off the street at age approx 3 months for over 10 years now. Best pet cats I've ever known.

Now if they had gone beyond 6 months or so feral, I'd agree with you completely.

I'm not a cat person so this is a serious question. What might you do about the ferals way over six months old; assuming you don't live on a farm?

Or you can try and get the urine/manure of the fox or coyote.

Just be nice to the coyotes at your parents place and ask for a sample :)

The Memphis Zoo sells it. I can vouch that tiger poo works well against racoons.

Will your condo association allow you to spread lion fecal matter throughout the parking lot? Is that less work that putting a car cover on your auto?

My condo association has a minimum age of 100, and thats mostly the problem. I was being facetious about the "fecal matter" :D but really what I'm going to do is call the Las Vegas animal control myself and deal with them.

I had a car cover for a while with the Corvette, but the wind often blew it off and it taking it on and off just got old... I finally gave up and started parking on the other side of the building where it's uncovered. Now that I have the new car, I'd like to take better care of the paint, so I went back to my covered spot, I didn't think the cats would jump on an SUV like they did the Vette (they loved sleeping on the ragtop). Hopefully animal control can figure it out.

    Good luck with that...

In all seriousness, you're not going to defeat a feral cat problem single-handed without violating any number of laws. If you choose to violate the law and say, shot them all with a .22 cal subsonic load(you can get shockingly quiet rounds), you would still have the problem of disposing with a few hundred pounds of rapidly decomposing carcasses. Even then, some unsuspecting toddler would most likely uncover the horror and you'd find a link to your CNN cover story including pics of your face and your feline mass grave posted here on FChat. ;)

My humble observation is that you may have placed the cart before the horse in buying a vehicle who's condition you care about before you have a garage to offer it shelter. Feral cats, acid rain, sandstorms, hordes of walker-wielding elderly, there will always be a threat...and all you get from banging your head against the wall is a headache. Remedy? Time to move. Buy/rent a place with a garage...it's far easier on your sanity than trying to fight the tide.

Try fox or coyote urine, soak a cotton ball with the predator urine & place in a plastic aspirin bottle, be sure to puncture some hole in the bottle & hang it near an area where they are getting in.

December, I just have to make it till December and I'm outta here. :)

My place was bought as an "investment" while I finish school (I'm across the streen from UNLV and I have a great view of the whole strip). Even though the Vegas real-estate market is sluggish right now we still got a great deal on the place so when I graduate and sell it, it will pay for all my school tuiton and a good detail job for the car. :)

Still pisses me off big time when my car is perfectly clean and I go down to find dirty paw prints on the hood.

My next place will have a garage FOR SURE, and I'll NEVER marry a woman that likes cats.

Well, hell, that's not too long then. YOU CAN HACK IT! Cover the car, lock the cover, call a town car anytime you need to go somewhere. Use the Pepper for long trips till you get it a garage. :)

Wish I could tell you, but the answer at that point isn't going to be easy (or if it is, it probably won't be terribly ethical).

Yes, you're right, I left that detail out. The kittens do have a 'critical period' of usually six to eight weeks where they can be socialized to humans and taken in as pets. You sure the cats you've got were really 3 months old when they were taken in? That's pretty far past the critical period. Can happen though. In fact, in some cases adult ferals can still be socialized, but that's pretty rare. You usually end up just torturing the poor animal when you try.

We have an animal shelter that takes cats. Maybe you do too. If they are feral cats (naturally wild) they will be micers on a farm. If they are domesticated (not wild) they will be put up for adoption.

Your local shelter will take ferals? Are you sure? The 'micers on a farm' is a nice idea, but most farms already have all the micers they need, and relocated ferals tend not to stick around (a fact which most farmers know). A shelter which takes ferals will very quickly fill up with cats they can't do anything with except euthanize, so it's rare to find a shelter that takes them.
