This is a sorry excuse for a picture; it predates digital cameras. As you can tell, I've scanned a photograph to get it out there for your scrutiny. I'll see if I can tone down the contrast & break out the underdash detail. I'll also look for more vintage material to post. At any rate, it appears that 10050 may not have THE Kit, but it's pretty close & the results are likely the same. As for the trouble, Dave, it's always a pleasure to dig through the archives & reminisce a bit. Cheers, Coop Image Unavailable, Please Login
My car had only the Ferrari front badge. However, it appears that the factory intended to ADD the F-badge above the Dino badge...not replace it! Coop Image Unavailable, Please Login
Interesting. When I brought my 1971 Euro Daytona into CA, I had to have the VIN inspected by DMV. They did not look for any smog equipment - just the chassis plates. I was not required to bring the car to a smog station for an inspection. Same thing with my Euro 1968 365GT 2+2. I don't think bringing a US registered 1975 GT4 into CA without it's equipment will be a problem. Any CA residents have a different experience? -steve
I have a '75 GT4 that I bought in Oregon last year, and I didn't have to bring mine to a smog station either. In fact, I didn't even go to the DMV. I went to AAA instead. She looked for the SMOG sticker (plate), the VIN on the frame, and (IIRC) that was all. I was on my way very shortly. However, my car was previously registered in CA prior to OR, but I don't think that made a difference. Three or four years prior to that, it was registered in NY. Just like another recent newcomer here to So Calif... And even from the same seller!
Wednesday I managed to register my out of state 1975 Dino in California. it was a simple one day visit, no inspection or test. This was NOT the case with my last 1974 X1/9 a couple of years ago. The problem was more with title than with emissions. The X1/9 was an also an out of state purchase and they wanted a chain of ownership to establish my title. It was currently not registered in NY, and the story gets complex from there. I still love my FIAT. really. With regard to it's emissions equipment, someone from the DMV visually inspected the X1/9. They checked the emission plate and then looked for evidence of required (prescriptive) equipment. air pump, canister, etc. I passed this inspection easily because, unlike my GT4, the FIAT had ALL the OEM equipment on it. A smog test (performance) was not required, having expired for cars manufactured prior to 1976. As has been mentioned here previously, ALL the emission equip is missing on my GT4 (10642). Originally a Canadian car, luckily records show it registered in California in 2004. The car was sold to Mike Cannillo in NY early this year, with current CA registration until December. I think that's why getting it re-registered didn't require an inspection. simple transfer of ownership. I was peeing masonry for weeks worrying based on my previous DMV nightmares. Basically, CA DMV has done under-hood inspections on out-of-state first time registrations. Whether they do them every time, I don't know. I've also found that just like working with Italian bureaucracy, repeat visits help. -f
My '75 GT4 was titled in Oregon and I went to the DMV last November with the title and not the car. The DMV gave me a form to have someone official (LEO, AAA, etc.) fill out, basically a verification of the VIN and to check for tampering, etc. A fellow Fchatter who is a deputy LEO of some kind did the paperwork and I took it the DMV and got title and plates. Piece of cacke. And no requests to look for smog on the forms.
Thanks David. I'm a 22 post Rookie. working my way up to Stalker. wait'll you hear MY intellectual property politics...

I admit I'm not running on all cylinders today, we were here pretty late last night. So if this is really stupid please forgive me. What is this? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Has anyone else ever noticed that 308 Dinos tend to come with 2 different style upper front bonnet shapes.(See 5th photo form the bottom on ebay) The photo on ebay of this car looking at it front on, shows a gentle rolling curve in the bonnet line above the front bumper/ fender (see the difference in visibility of the lights) Other cars have an almost completely flat edge that almost sits on the fender/ bumper. Does anyone know if this is a concious design change or just a result of them slapping the cars together in the 70's in Maranello? My 79 Euro GT4 has a very similar front end to this one advsertised on ebay?, but I have seen many others with a completely flat front end. Tom
duh! Man, I have to get some sleep Tom, I think what you're seeing is the difference between the fitment of series 1 vs the updated & series 2 bumpers. This car has the series 1 bumpers on it which enhance that gap between the nose and the bumper. You know think about this car. It is going to need a belt service, fuel hoses, and for the purists some other work. No it isn't the original color. But it looks like somebody is going to pick it up for the low 20's. Not a bad deal for a fun little car.
I agree Dave! I hope it goes to an FChatter! There is alot of really cool stuff with that car. It would be interesting to see it in person to pick it over. Not much to say on the pics. JIM
Reserve price lowered slightly (-$500). Still on the market and at $21K. Man, I have to find a place to store this car! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari-1975-308-GT4-308-GT4-1975-FERRARI-308-GT4-RED-CLEAN-CLASSIC-BERTONE-DESIGN_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6212QQihZ014QQitemZ330131402172QQrdZ1 Oh, and as for the smog law, I didn't say it was an ironclad practice. We were discussing the CA rules and there they are. That's just the law, apparently not the practice. I have never seen anyone not get passed on an exempt car with or without stock equipment. Hell, we had a GT4 trade in SF that was a Euro 1976 registered as a 1975 with zero smog stuff. The buyer had no problems. The moral of the story is 1976 and later u suck (like my friend's '76 glass 308); 1975 and before, cruise city. The caveat is that you could get stopped and challenged by CHP, but it's a fix it ticket anyway.
Hi Dave Tom's car is Euro so bumpers are different (had the pleasure of riding in the back seat last year while visiting the Emerald Isle for a wedding). I'll check my Euro although from memory it does not have a large gap in middle above the bumper. Gerrit
+1 Hmmm, even my 5' tall girlfriend complained about a 30 minute backseat ride last Sunday! Kids or luggage, nothing else should be on that back seat (or a mother-in-law maybe??)
