It was great to have dinner with everyone and meet the people in this group for the first time! My wife and I had a great time. Thanks to Derek for organizing it, to Jim for giving me a few tips on how to give Rob a harder time :D, and particularly to Rob for hosting. Also thanks to all three gracious ladies for their pleasant company and their tolerance of yet more car talk.

Finished Montreal off great today. Out there early to watch Ferrari Challenge and Formula BMW races. Jimpo1, wife, and Jennie joined me before the F1 race. Another hot day, but we put up with it. Our seats turned out to show great first hand action in all the races.

Not a great day for Ferrari, but still a fun race to watch, highlight maybe the late race pass Sato put on Alonso... ouch! After race, highlight was figuring out we could walk back on the actual track, that was very cool.

Came back to hotel for a quick nap, then back to old town for a miniature pub crawl and then super at three beer brewers. Will be up at 5am for trip back to Dallas.

    Great A+ trip!!!

I've never been before and have never stayed at another hotel, but I would have to highly recommend this one. It is the Sandman at Longueuil. It is 1 minute walk from the last yellow stop (University), so only one stop from track, but benefit of being opposite direction as everyone else when leaving the track, only took us 5-10 minutes to get out of the track each day. Also still within 4-5 stops of old downtown and Peel/Crescent area. They say they're 4 star, but maybe more like 3.5 star. Decent rooms, free internet, ok bar, and free complete breakfast. I think $320 a night for king size room.

They open the circuit right after the race to let the spectators walk home easier. Also they have an after race party with rock music right on the track.

It is an interesting point: A few years ago the FIA declared it illegal to open the track at the end of the race and fined tracks that did that. That never stopped for instance Monza to have its red fest. However apparently some tracks like Sepang still adhere to that rule. Not even sure that rule is still in place.

It WAS a great trip, I wish I had time to add my pictures. I'll try to throw mine in later this week. I have some of Jennie asleep on the Metro, Rob standing up and being drowsy on the Metro, Rob visually explaining his definition of 'Brasserie', etc. Also more good race pics.

It was nice to meet Yin, his wife, and Derek. Also rcallahan quite by accident. We decided that Rob needs to make up a bunch of t-shirts that say "FERRARICHAT.COM" in great big letters across the back. You'll never get more tifosi in a single place. The existing F-chat swag has small letters on the front, we need more exposure.

I can't agree more with Rob that the Sandman Hotel is the way to go. After the race, we got right on the train, no wait. The masses were crammed in the cars going the other way, and had security getting them all lined up. We walked down the stairs and got on.

Highlights of the trip for me:

    1. The Baileys Irish Cream lady that said Jennie was 'beaming' she was so excited to get a frozen Baileys drink.
    2. Rob falling asleep on the subway.
    3. *****ing about the 13 mile walk from the Metro station to our seats in stand 11. And back.
    4. Rob dozing off at dinner during our 3 hour meal, followed by his immediate transformation caused by a double espresso. He went from sleepy Rob to "please shut up" Rob in about 4 minutes. No lie.
    5. Watching the look on my wifes face when she first heard the cars for real.
    6. Watching Alonso repeatedly wind up in the grass in the first set of turns, then get passed by Sato.
    7. Watching Trulli spank the wall right in front of us. Somebody should tell him about cold tires. I got a picture of the wall where he hit.
    8. Walking the track after the race, it was too cool.

    and last but most imporant:

    9. Seeing a bunch of the Ferrari support crew at the gate next to ours in the Montreal airport, headed for Indy. They were all wearing Ferrari jeans, long sleeve blue oxford Puma shirts, with embroidered scuderia sheilds on the pocket, and black Puma shoes. Some had sport coats with shields on the breast pocket. All were carrying either a tan Schedoni briefcase with embossed shields, or red Puma backpacks. It was pretty cool. My wife told me I should take a picture, but I couldn't make myself do it. Scuderia Toro Rosso was also there, but their outfits weren't as good.

WOW. I was in 11-3, the Senna curve is the best view of the race and the grandstand 11 is the best grandstand to be in.

In the beginning I would always buy the gold at the start finish line, but the last 6 years I'm married to grandstand 11.

Hope you had a great time.

I dont think the officials open the track. I saw a few guys with big cutters they pulled out of there back packs cutting an opening in the fence near the senna curve. I think a few other guys had the same idea.
