Just had my car shipped to Del Mar last week and was hoping a few Southern region F members could recommend a good drive. looking for something other than PCH with some good twisting roads. Want to open it up just a bit.
    any suggestions?
    thanks in advance.

    Palomar Mountain.

Also continue east on 76 'til the tee and head north thru Warner Springs or south thru Santa Isabel . . . lots of other roads out there.

There can be lots of slow traffic some days and other days there's none.

    Have fun . .. what's your ride?

A cruise through Coronado with lunch at the Loews is always nice..The Silver Strand is the nicest beach in San Diego.

I'm in del mar too... maybe we can set up a drive with my dad's Gallardo Spyder.

I suggest Palomar Mountain. a bunch of us did that run a few months back, it was awesome.

Telegraph canyon becomes Otay lakes. then keep right and takes you to El Campo/94 . Take it east off of the 5 south not too far from TJ. It will take you out a good 45 to 60 miles. Pull off on some of the look outs and look down. all you see is cliff and cars at the bottom of the cliff. If that dont get you excited then......

Lucky is right about the 76. But, it's changed A LOT! About 6yr ago there were zero cops out there. Only a few local Sherifs.

Then casino's came in and BOOM!!!! Highway patrol is everywhere now. So be careful. It's still a hot spot for all the sport bike riders though. If you go during the weekday you'll have very little traffic. Take a drive out to Julian. Very great spot to drive out to. Eat a nice lunch and cruise back.

    It'll be about a 3hr drive though.

I agree with Jeff about Coronado. Have friends that live there. It's an amazing little island. But, I doubt you'll get above 30mph there though.

Now the road I'd take that was close, and had some twists...
Go to Del Mar and then up through Del Dios highway. It'll take you through all the roads in Ranch Sante Fe.

I went on Google to get some maps for you and this popped up. It's a driving club that wrote out a driving loop. It looks pretty good to give some ideas.

    'nuff said

The route I take to run Palomar is 74 to the 15 to the 79 to the 76, right turn up Mt Palomar Rd, down the same way, right to continue on the 76, right again to get to the 15 and back through Ortega again or end up in Carlsbad by the beach for a little R&R. The 79 adds 45 miles and change to the overall trip length as does returning via Ortega. Whole trip length is just under 190 miles not including commute time and lunch visit.
