The pics of his feet are quite dramatic, however that structure that his feet were resting in is the safety shell that is designed to protect his feet. That box structure did it's job perfectly. What a testament to today's safety technology.

What caused the accident? In all of the replays, you couldn't really tell. I thought I heard them say that he pulled out to pass Ralf, and Ralf maybe brushed against him??? Anyone know for sure?

Which would have probably been better for him as the TR would have absorbed much more kinetic energy than a concrete wall..

Today, on the news, he was quoted to remember practically the whole crash. They didn't say what it looked like from his point of view though.

I think it was Jarno Trulli. he was passing. It also looked like{whoever it was} was definitely holding him out side until the last, and then past the last second. Held him hostage out there and that was it.

Yep it is Scott Speed - I was there in that stand behind facing the hairpin. He parked his car there and the marshals put it behind the wall. He sat there for the rest of the race and was still there at the end. I'm guessing that he flinched just a bit in his chair when the car speared into the wall 10ft away from him!

In Fox's defence there was no announcement at the track of Kubica's condition. I had one of the Kangaroo TV machines with the live F1 feed and commentary (which was V cool) and there was nothing. I found out he was OK by speaking to my mother in England who was watching the ITV coverage. Speed/Fox don't have much presence at the races, its all remote taped apart from Peter Windsor whereas ITV has a whole team there at every race.

It did almost look like it. Trulli "drifted" across the track when Kubica tried to take him. I do believe you want to set yourself on the outside of a turn going into it? He was aiming for the inside, something wrong there?

I just watched it, he DEFINATLY tried a block on Kubica. It makes not sense to have taken that turn on the outside.

Yes it does because then you will be on the inside for the NEXT corner, the hairpin.

BTW: I am most upset with this tracks wall design. Crazy to have a wall on a very fast part of the track that is nearly 90 degrees to the road direction. They need to change that wall before somebody is killed. If the wall was parallel to the road it would have been a very minor accident, instead it was a shocker. Who designs these walls?

Also, a sandtrap would have gone a long way to slowing the car down.

    here's the latest :

BMW-Sauber team boss Mario Theissen confirmed that Kubica will quickly recover from his horrifying 280kph crash during the Canadian Grand Prix.

"I am really very relieved," Theissen told Sport-Informations-Dienst, although it remains to be decided if Kubica - who was knocked unconscious in the incident - will be replaced by either test driver Sebastian Vettel or Timo Glock for the upcoming US GP this weekend.

Robert Kubica's first question to doctors at the hospital on Sunday was: "Can I race in Indianapolis next Sunday?"

In related news, Jarno Trulli said after the Canadian Grand Prix that Kubica's crash was caused by the BMW driver hitting him from behind.
Television replays show that he made contact with Trulli's Toyota prior to spearing off at full speed.

"I had not moved from my line but when I saw the car roll over I was very concerned," the Italian explained. "When you see another colleague have such a big crash and you are hit from the back it's not a nice feeling."

Someone should tell this knob that drifting over to block IS MOVING from your line.

I'm not sure if you've been through a hairpin but there's only one line. There isn't an inside or an outside, just a line. If over taking you can push someone wide or if they're slow you can try the outside but the approach for that hairpin is as far left as you can be, brakes, dive in, apex and throttle out. Only a fool would say you should take the "inside" or "outside" line in a hairpin.

No I am too, the wall should definitely be spread out with some padding or tires at the end of that straight.

You'd have to be braindead to think he stayed on the racing line. Watch Kimi (the third car), he is on the line.

A sand trap doesn't do anything when the car barely touches the ground. Also you may notice that a sand trap actually causes cars to bounce up into the air.

I say get catch fences, safe barrier walls and correct any older track flaws and let them race.

I thought you start outside, cut in, then throttle out?
