After a million delays & setbacks, I finally moved into my new house last month. I knew it would be a lot of work, but I underestimated how much by a longshot. There are so many small & minor things still to finish, such as some furnishing, touchups, decorating, etc... As I'm sure most of you know, it can be a fun process, but also very exhausting. I'm not looking forward to going through this process again anytime soon, so I'll probably be in this house for a long time.

Here are a few pics of the exterior. I have some of the interior on my home cpu and will post those later if anybody is interested in seeing them. The house is 6k sq ft and sits on a lot just shy of 1 acre.

Other than a minor paint job of the retaining wall near that front balcony, the only thing the front of the house is missing are 2 urns (big limestone flower pots) that will sit on top of the brick columns by the sidewalk, which will also get power washed in a few days.

Very nice Jeff, you may need to let me in on a few of your secrets of being a successful .com R :)

Some interior shots would be great. What year was the home built?

+1 on secret also. Beautiful house mate. Of course we need interior shots and lots of them. I hope the payment on this bad boy won't force you to sell the toys. Hopefully you have left some room for your bad boy needs.

Nice home, congrats! Not so big as to be intimidating, not so showy it's ostentatious, very nice balance.

Thank you guys. The key to my success on the net was simple, timing. I started fiddling around in '96 and started making money in '97. Had all things been the same, but I got in 10 years later, it is almost a certainty that things would not have worked out the way they did for me. I just consider myself lucky & thank my lucky stars for it all the time. :)

I found some pics of the interior that I took about 2+ months ago. A couple of the pics are lousy quality and the house was a mess when these were taken, but they still give an idea of what the inside looks like.

BTW, I bought that couch about 2-3 years ago when I still had a more contemporary/modern mindset. As the process came along, my tastes changed a bit and I started liking a few more slightly traditional things. I wouldn't have chosen the same couch if I were buying today, so I'll probably end up replacing that (and maybe even the rest of that great room furniture) in the near future. I do like the way it looks, but I'd probably go with something different, plus I don't find it to be comfy the way a big, soft, fluffy sofa set would be.

Dude, fireplace in the bathroom...thats the sign of a serious player. :)

Great looking house Jeff. One of the few that the 430 dosen't look out of place sitting in front of.

Did you guys stay in th N-ville area? I know that they are building those sorta houses down there. I'd love to live down there but work (mine and the wifes) keeps me in Macomb County (well the additional million or so dollars in house prices are a factor too).

BTW I've got that same ceiling fan in my house. Minka aire, right?

I envy you: being finished. Heartfelt congrats.

I'm starting on our second "new" house in four years. The current one proved to be way too big, so it's "downsizing" now, but a full-blown major remodel anyway. :(

You should hire someone to design your house. That house's potentiality is huge. You'll end up loving your house 1000* more and your wife will probably love you for it.

I couldn't even imagine building two houses in 4 years. Been in mine for about 2 years now and I am still getting over the ulcers and that was only on a 2800 sft house. I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel now. Final landscaping is going in in a few weeks, patio is done, hiring painting contractors at the end of the summer (builders paint sucks) then I can move onto the basement and finish off the furniture purchases. It never ends. :(

I appreciate the nice comments by everybody. :)
Thank you. It is indeed a 4 car garage. I still haven't decided what I'm going to do with the garage floor (tile, etc...), but whatever I do, I want to do it soon because the garage is always very dusty and it's impossible to keep the cars clean.

It began in late '04 and was finished in early '07, so the official answer to that question would be '07. So many things set me back on time, including the brick I wanted being on backorder for several months.

Thx Michael, the new house is actually in Novi, but my mailing address and school district are Northville. I pay Novi taxes. It's actually turning out to cause confusion with the cable company, utilities, etc... I give them my mailing address and they'll saying something like "sir, we don't service Northville", lol. I'm not sure about the brand of the ceiling fan, but I think you could be right. The name "Minka" rings a bell.

I was architect and GC for the house we're in now; my old building team members have gone their separate ways, and I'm just doing the plans and have found a good GC for the new one. Still, it's going to be a lot of work but more on the front end; I'm relieved that I won't have to micro-manage everything from day one to finish like I did on the present house.

This was something I swore never to do again; less than 3 yrs after moving here, I'm doing it again!

It's not an an unheard of scenario, though. During my career I saw four or five so instances of couples spending 2 years start-to-finish planning and building a $$$ custom house, then living there less than a year and for whatever reason deciding they didn't want it after all...usually because it was too big.

That was the situation with us...my wife wanted to live in her parents' house but was miserable almost from day one here...she's not used to living in and caring for anything nearly this big, and yes, there are ghosts of the past in longtime family homes. We lived in 1600 feet for 21 years previously and moving to a place 2X that size was a change that didn't work.

It doesn't bother me to leave here...the work involved and some azhole neighbors at the new loc are my only probs with moving. I like the new smaller cottage and its location much better than this place.
