My 30k engine out service.

    The last major engine out service was done at Ferrari of San Francisco in 2001. The car has about 15k miles since.

    I ordered the parts from http://www.ricambiamerica.com

    I will be changing the trans oil to Royal purple.

    It took quite a bit longer to remove the engine than expected. About 7 hrs to be exact. This was my first time at removing the engine and I wanted to ensure that I was doing everything correctly.

    The flywheel was leaking quiet abit. Flywheel disassembled and was repacked. A big THANKS to (Motob) Brian Brown from Patrick Ottis Company
    1220 Tenth St.Berkeley, CA who let me borrow the 60mm wrench and clutch alignment tool that I needed to do the job. Brian called me to see if i had run into any snags along the way.

    I just sent the valve covers out to have them powder coated red.
    Going to have the guy in Mississippi rebuild the water pump even though it appears to be fine.

    I am doing this work with the help of my friend Chris who owns A Bauer Porsche repair in Oakland CA.

    I also noticed that my fuel filters in my spider is smaller than in other 348's.

    Be careful with those fuel filters. There is a guy on ebay claiming to sell 348 filters that are bosch and will work but are too small in diameter. It is very important that you either get the right diameter or fab new secure brakets. If the filter is allowed to wiggle up and down it puts more stress and increases possible breakage failure in your fuel lines. Such a failer can spray fuel on hot headers and you will burn!

    I know when I did my engine service recently the filters Ricambi sent where the larger and did not fit. They had to be smaller. mines a '94 MY.

    My car is a 95 and uses the smaller one shown in the pic. I was told the earlier 348 use the bigger ones.

    Well if any later 348 owner who uses the small filters wants some I've got 2 new ones. I paid 60 bucks for the pair. Or if someoen has the large ones and needs the small ones I'll swap. I'm too lazy to make a new bracket so I keep buying the big ones when I need them.

    Tell the truth... when you had everything out did you get a sick feeling in the bottom of your stomach that you might not get it back together ok? Love the pics but you are a braver man than me doing all that work!

    Be sure to use some Hondabond HT on ALL the gaskets. If you want your car to be leak free, go get a tube, and apply it conservatively. All you need is a thin layer, just enough so that it barely beads out when you tighten things down. Be sure to put it on both sides of the gaskets.

    Nice powered coating job. I had mind done the same way. I like the shiny look better than the crinkle. Plus it's way easier to keep clean. Just wipe it down with a wet cloth.

    I've rebuilt very large nordberd marine diesels in power houses using 10 ton over head box cranes to lift the crank 10,000 of an inch for the thrust bearing removal and I would be scared to attempt this if I had a f car of my own .My question is where did you get the shop manual, spec's etc...

    If you have done that, then working on a 348 will be a snap. I just got done pulling the heads of my Integra and putting in a new head gasket. It was harder to work on that thing than on my 348. The 348 has WAY more room to work with, even with the engine in stu, than the Integra does. Everything is crammed in there.

    Don't be scared of the name, is still an internal combustion engine. The nuts and bolts don't know what they are on. Lefty-loosey, righty-tighty. Nothing to it. :D

    I am into the parts for about 2000.00 give or take a few bucks. This includes allthe parts and fluids as well as some additional things I did power coating the valve covers $130.00.

    A little difficult because it is the first time working on this car and rechecking everthing as it comes apart and goes packing the same way. More so time comsuming than difficult.

    Im not a mechanic, but my friend thats helping me is.
