    came from another forum..

They somehow managed to crash it through a metal gate and down into the elevator pit... the elevator was up at the time. Boxster was only about a week old.

Heh, I guess I lucked out in contrast. A valet only mashed my front Active Aero dam on my twin turbo with one of those concrete stoppers. Since then, no more valets.

Be a sport. My very first Ferrari's were cars i parked as valet here in LA.

    #1 was a 308gts
    #2 was a Daytona.

Good clean fun. Sunset and Alpine to coldwater and back to sunset before the owner knew they were gone. !!!!

I'm not familiar with valet service (we don't do it here in the UK), but I've wondered, while the car is in their possession, do they have the full responsibility (meaning any damage/loss is covered by them) or are you taking a gamble by letting them handle the car (meaning you have to pay any damage/loss)?

In other words, you committed a crime. As a valet, a stupid thing to do. Don't expect to make many friends here.

That happened some years ago where I work, was a MB. Valet drivers here (Brazil) are crazy.

You should be able to sue the valet for unlawful usage. Also, valets need to be insured too, so if they screw up, they are covered, but will not get insured later for anything more expensive then a moped.

I call it theft. Ferris Bueller grew up too. but guessing this was a few years ago, and maybe you compensated them for their additional maintenance costs since (I'm guessing Daytona's are more than $1/mile in maintenance to operate, on average, 308's less).

Almost busted by the F chat Police !. No It wasn't a smart thing for a 17 year old to do But not a crime... Lesson here is that all kinds of crazy things happen. Accidents at the venue and those of temptation. The ticket that you receive from the valet says essentially that you release the valet company from all liability. If fact no matter what the ticket says, State law will dictate liability. For example if i had damaged either car back in 1982 the owner would have had a civil claim against the Valet co. On the other hand if some party goer side swiped a car that the valets park on the street, the company generally would not be liable.

I stand by the theft statement, but 25 years ago is a whole different story. I recall doing some incredibly stupid things around 1982 too, that, uh, we don't need to discuss here :)

I went to dinner @ Ruth's Chris with my family for father's day; i valeted my car.

we were seated next to a window, and halfway through dinner, i can hear my car screaming down the street right on the other side of the window. it was still light out, so the curtains were closed.

When I got there, I had watched the valet back it into its space...When we were leaving, my car was in a different space right up in front. Now, I make it a point to reset my trip computer before I get out of the car, so, unless the valet is paying attention and is really smart, I can tell if they've take the car out for a joyride.

I got in the car, and the thing had almost 5 miles on it!

    ...he didn't get a tip.

That's it? So, you allowed this to happen? Especially at that place, I would have called up the police.

eh; coudln't really do much. No need to make a huge deal out of it, but that is QUITE a bit of driving for a joy ride... a quick spin around the block is only about a mile...but almost 5? ridiculous.

and it's not even THAT nice a car.... i mean, they had some Bentley GT's and a GT3 in the lot. why didn't they take those out? [they probably did] :p

now, i dont have an f-car [it's an M3, and i'm a CSL whore so it's got all the CSL body goodies..tying to get my hands on a CSL exhaust and intake, but i dont think that's gonna happen, so i may just SC the thing]; but how do you guys treat valet? just park your own car in the valet and tip 'em for letting you keep the keys? or do you hand over your keys?

Wrong!. Nothing releases you from unauthorized use. You're lucky the owner didn't come out and call 911 to report the car stolen. It wouldn't be the F Chat police who would bust you either.

They never get my keys, I always park the car myself right out front.
