Hi everybody, Is there a thread about detailing the engine bay? I've tried the search engine w/o success. Maybe I'm not using the right words. Anyway, if someone knows please refer or if not is there anybody with a step by step approach to such a venture? TIA
No not really but see the other "billowing black smoke" thread where the detailers made the engine run terrible! LOL! I like to mist some light oil over the metal and rubber treat the intake bellows but you really have to be careful... No engine degreasers ....it'll damage seals, no water.... you can short your plugs/extenders....... My engine looks like it was left out on Galveston Island on the beach but it runs GREAT! LOL! So have fun but be careful......
My mechanic once said he could tune a V12 and the guys in the Wash Rack would reduce it to a three cylinder powerplant....ROTFLMAO!
I clean my 328 engine all the time. Mostly, I use a mild soap and water solution but occasionally use a tougher grease cleaner - w/ care - for work on the block and valve covers. Cover your electrical connections first and drive the car after its bath. There are a few articles on Google; Here is one http://www.bettercarcare.com/how-to-detail-your-engine.html
Thank for the input Big Tex. Well then what about these pictures I see all the time with those immaculate engines???...Are they all garage queens that never see a highway? If so that engine bay will stay the way it is and I'll keep doin' what's good for me and Roxanne; driving the h*** out of it.
Oh yea, Simple Green is a good degreaser for the lower aluminum of the engine/tranny it works well........
Yea, a clean engine is like those guys at work that keep the desk "just so"....you know there ain't much work getting done! LOL! The guys that kept them spotless take it to the next level...not sure if they enjoy the car anymore than I do...... I had to erase my post from the "Ferrari experience" thread it went: "We were not far from the Dance Club, she was already naked....... It was a long way home....." See? The simple appproach is always best!!!!
One last tip I use....on the engine vent louvers black anodizing........to prevent/remove water spots and hazing.... After you get them and deck lid clean, a very light wiping of mineral oil, from the drugstore! Check that out.......

Thats great advice Tex. I may try it this weekend. Those damn louvers always have spots. Always.. drives me nuts.
Thanks for the tip! I was wondering about that as well. Of course, I don't think I'll be seeing my car for at least a few more weeks, as I finally got it down to Jim Lindsey in New Orleans. BTW, thanks for helping point him out to me. He's a really nice guy. I was dreading the did you know that the car needs . Phone call, as I only paid $30K for it, but hes told me that hes driven it around and had it up on the lift and that the car seems very good. Heres hoping that that opinion doesnt change as he gets further into it doing the belts!
Nope, he's the man in N.O. area, he's cared for multi-million dollar cars.....glad he made it OK thru the disaster.....
I had just missed the Baton Rouge Enzo when I got mine down there! Can you believe the owner has put 20,000+ miles on it since new?
