If it is a US version, there is no 97. All US F50's were 95's.
In a run of less than 350 cars I doubt that there were any changes at all between any of the cars, no matter where in the run they were built

If a 97 F50 is identical to a 95 F50, then why does the DOT only allow you to bring in a 95 F50 for US conversion ?

They are not identical. Only '95s can be EPA/DOT certified in the US, '96s and '97s cannot. OBDII went into effect '96 onwards.

That car has been there for a very long time.. not sure if it's just on display or what. Might be worth checking out sometime.

Because a 96 or later US version requires OBD II. Even 'though the non US 96 and 97 cars are identical to the US version 95, they do not have OBD II and therefore cannot comply with the regulations in force for their particular model year. Beauracratic BS certainly, but a reality we have to contend with every day where the government gets involved in our lives. Consider someone buying fuel in Nevada and crossing the border into CA. Technically they are breaking the law operating a vehicle using non-conforming fuel. More Government crapola. The same goes for 49 state cars that are unable to be sold in CA.
I doubt however that the issue of a non US 96 or 97 F50 trying to be certified for US sale has arisen as there were very few of those anyway in a total of 349 cars for all production years.

This of course is the reason that genuine US cars attract a significant premium over the Euro models.

Nope, not true at all. I've visited them about 15 times during the past 8 years and picture taking was always allowed. Not just for me, but for everybody else too. They get quite a lot of visitors who are not able to buy a car there and they are friendly to everyone, at least that`s my experience.

    Ciao,

    Lars T.

I looked at this car a few weeks ago and believe it is still for sale. It is in beautiful condition, has had several owners, and was originally sold in Germany. It is the only F50 I have seen that has had the dash converted from KPH to MPH.

The other problem I see (aside from availability) is that any non US F50 is not worth purchasing right now since our dollar is so weak. The exchange rate sucks!
