JPM WINS!!!
Congrats Juan and Juan fans. He made dumb mistakes, but I didn't see him do anything too shady like Mexico. Juan Pablo Montoya Avg. Finish: 22.8
His first in Nextel Cup series. He already raced on a road course for the Busch series in Mexico and won that one, too. Does anyone know if today's win was Ganassi Racing's first win in Nextel Cup? Edit: Sterlin Marlin in the #40 Dodge won Michigan in 2001 and another race that season. Two more in '02...
No, he won in Mexico earlier in the year in the Busch Series - not exactly the same as Nextel Cup, but not F1, either.
C'mon man, don't be too hard on the guy. He's said numerous times what his feelings are on Juan and gave him props for his win.
I'm just kidding...I know Rob's good guy JPM didn't race all that well today- the fuel strategy gave him the win- but I'm sure he'll take it. I just like seeing someone clearly not in the typical mold of a NASCAR driver win- you know a Columbian winning infuriates most Cup fans.
Not only that, but it's the first win for Dodge this season. Probably pisses off the bowtie and blue oval guys...
I was watching the race & the last thing I remember he was in the forth place...then I dozed off. Great job JPM, not bad for someone that started in the far back of the pack.
Ohhh, I see. This isn't about anything except you being bitter at life, or rather not having the life you think you deserve. Rob, if you really have talent and a NASCAR drive were to somehow come your way only to have you refuse it then you're just a fool.
No. I think the drivers in NASCAR as any other pro series have a certain level of respect for the pros of other sports that is often not shared by the average fan who is wholly unknowledgeable about what it takes to get to the pro level of any sport. Drivers in NASCAR as in any other motorsport know that driving is but one small component of the entire team package needed to win at any pro level.
Actually they named another driver who came back from dead last to win. However, he had qualified near the front or on the pole, made a mistake passing the pace car or something of that nature and had to start tail end Charlie. The announcers also mentioned that this driver pulled this off at a time when there wasn't as much road racing talent in the field.
Chill out. This isn't a personal discussion. Everyone knows I'm not a Juan fan, never have been. Everyone knows I'm not a NASCAR fan, never have been. Is it OK to not like certain drivers or certain types of racing? Do you like EVERYONE? Is your immature flame typical of Juan fans? I know Juan has the nickname Whine Pablo for good reason. Birds of a feather flock together?
OK, so in other words he is undefeated in a stock car on a road course? In a car not of a "top team" in the league I think that really showcases his skill and gives F1 fans something to point their finger to at how competitive F1 drivers are, no?
Every race win requires just a tad of luck. Even the top teams. You need and don't need caution flags at certain periods, which affects your pit stop strategy. It's a lot about strategy (more than F1) and the best car doesn't always win the race. He was fortunate in that he had enough fuel to end. Jeff Gordon started further back and finished 7th and was fortunate to have cautions happen at certain times.
I was talking about just qualifying spot and not where he was at one point of the race. Why was that guy at the back of the pack during the race? Flat tire or something? Just a regular pit stop rotation where he was first to pit? Here's a little more detail to that fact I posted earlier: Source: http://www.nascar.com/2007/news/headlines/cup/06/24/montoya.wins.sonoma.ap/index.html
But it is a personal discussion and based on your dislike of one driver your saying things too inane to even repeat. I don't feel one way or the other about Juan and during this race was actually rooting for Robby Gordon. I simply have respect for individuals (even Kimi) who've made a career for themselves in motorsports whatever the discipline. That is not the same thing as liking everyone or is your maturity level so low that you can't tell the difference?
You know nothing about me. What gives you the right to flame me? As I said, chill out, this is a good ribbing thread, if you can't handle it, go away.
Yeah I understand you. The announcers were talking about the same thing and one of them cut in about that other driver who I think was Ernie Irvin. I can't remember what the situation was, whether it was a rules violation during the race or a flat tire but they were just saying that technically he came from further back to win even though he had qualified at the front in the first place. So that of course does not give him (Ernie Irvin) the record as having a tail end qualifying position and race win. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
No, you chill out Rob, I'm perfectly cool, comfortable and amused where I'm sitting . Seems to me my "flaming" is just as good a ribbing as your giving Juan there.
Juan's not a user, you are. Man I hate using the ban button on my personal battles, but this one is too easy. My boy, Jeff Gordon, is still in first place. Went from last (41st) to seventh. +34 JPM went from 32 to 1st. +31. Did I mention the JG is still in first place.
