Anyone know anyone local or semi-local who can do it? I am on the North Shore, so anyone around the N.S. area or into New Hampshire. I had new tires put on my daily driver and they gouged the $h!t out of the wheels. Not a huge big deal as I think it's just scrapes in the clearcoat, and the rims needed refinished anyway, but I don't really want to ship them due to the time and cost, and figured someone local could maybe do it. Any experiences?
Try out Rim Pro out of Tewksbury. Their site is www.rimpro.com I beleive. Great servc=ice and a turnaround time of under a week. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions since I deal with them a couple times a week for clients cars. Hope this helps.
Mike, I can't help you on your question and I'm sorry the shop did that. Please share with us which shop had such lousy workmanship so we can steer clear. Businesses that do not take care of their customers don't deserve more customers. Birdman
It was the Getty gas station near the bridge in Haverhill. I went there for a sticker and it failed for the tires (rears were near the wear bars). I took it back to my work and ordered new Kumho ASX tires from Tire Rack. They came Friday so I took it back, they put the tires on, re-did the sticker and put an alignment on the car. I was very happy when I left (they were closing and it was getting dark, so I just paid and left). The car drove fantastic! The tires and alignment are awesome. But in my garage, two wheels have a circular gouge going 'round 1/2 the wheel. Another has a gouge in two spokes and scrapes on the front. The 4th has what looks like curb rash but it's on the top of the lip, not the side where rash would be. I'm not sure what to do. A couple months ago, the rims had a lot of brake dust baked on and when I used various cleaners to remove it, they ended up with some what of a dull finsih. But I thought I could bring it back with some buffing. Now they definitely will need some pro help. Should I bring it back Monday and ask them to pay for it? I have a feeling they will deny it. They are nice guys - a pair of lebanese brothers. They have always gone out of their way to be nice and do quick work, but it pisses me off that they did this. Maybe on some POS it would be a non-issue but it bugs me. The refinishing place above is $160 a wheel! That would be $640 for the four of them. I know they would not want to ante up to pay for that, and I am not sure if that would be totally fair because they already needed a little work, but it was minor dulling before and it's pretty scraped up now. When I think about it, it really bugs the crap out of me. I was going to go to the NTB in Seabrook, NH too. I was gonna go there specifically because I know a guy there who is real careful, but I used bad judgement I guess. I have always taken care of this car - it has only a couple of minor scratches because I am careful where, I park, etc. But now it just bugs me every time I get in - I have gone out several times to see how bad the scrapes are and when I do, I get pissed all over again. What would you guys do?
I'd say you were quoted a bargain....I don't know how 'tricky' magnesium is to work with, but when I had my wheels refinished on my 308 (I had orange-peel finish from improper priming of the wheel) it cost me $1,600 for a full repaint/mount/balance. Oh, and after the old finish was stripped off, the wheels were badly pitted - so I still see some evidence of that after the re-finish. They look great, but not 'perfect'.
Although it's away from the Boston/North Shore area, I've had good luck with John at New England Wheel Repair in East Windsor, CT (about 15 minutes north of Hartford off of I-91). I've had wheels refinished for both my daily driver 308 (OEM magnesium Cromodora wheels) and the wheels for my 355Ch. Cost per wheel will probably be approx. $150 including mounting and balancing existing or new tires - very reasonable. Several Hartford area Ferrari guys have had work done there and several local area car dealerships contract out their wheel repairs to him. Phone number is (860)292-6111.
Thank you Charlie. Unfortunately I think this is going to get nasty. I went back there on Monday morning and the two guys who own the place both said they dont think they did it and "dont understand how they could be responsible" because the tech who put the tires on told them he always lifts up the circular bar from the wheel. They said they will "talk to the owner" (even though I know they co-own the place) and get back to me. As of today, no call back. I am gonna post pics in the general section - its very obviously tire machine damage. The guy used every excuse he could.... "we didnt do it", "you can hardly notice it", "what do you expect me to do about it?", "no no this is curb rash", "it was probably like that when you dropped it off", etc. Guess it will go to small claims. Oh well, such is life.
