Not mentioned in archived R&R is information on taking apart the gearbox clutch assembly. My cable has a kink near the end and doesn't want to wind properly. I have gotten everything apart, almost, down to the shaft, gears, worm groove spool.

I was quoted $50 for the cable replacement job (5/64" dia CRES 7x7) which sounds reasonable. But I must send them the bare spool plus cable with full access to the cable ends. Access to the cable ends is required to have a steel ferrule stop crimped onto each end of the cable.

With a kink in the cable, just when the window is about to fully close, a horrendous noise occurs as the cable is unable to wind properly into the right groove of the spool and tries to jump over top. I've lived with this for years but it's gotten worse and today is the day for making things right. Naturally, all the great pictures and write-ups skipped this step so I suspect it wasn't a problem for most others who have been there-done that.

    Thanks.

I've reread all threads which search comes up with and unfortunately none address this issue. Again, I have an ASSEMBLY of the four parts shown in the picture. I wish to EXTRACT the rightmost part shown in this picture, a spool with shaft.

I have no problem getting the motor/gearcase taken apart to an assembly of those 4 parts shown but cannot take them apart. That is specifically my immediate problem, access to the cable ends by, somehow removing the parts which gain access to the spool shown on the right. The 'spring disk' shown on the left may be the key but I cannot persuade it loose. The extra grease has been removed by soaking and I've gently hammered here and there but mine won't budge. Do the 'balls' require motivating? I'm missing something and getting splinters in my fingers from scratching my head.
