I was out in the 599 just cruising and I pulled out of a parking lot and accelerated near WOT and then all of a suddenly the car goes into neutral and starts flashing engine control system failure. I called the dealer and they are going to come check it out, but does anyone know what this is or what could have caused it?

    Thanks,
    Bill

my 360 spider haves also the same it can be many things catalizators, emision control system, bosh motronic... i called yesterday to the official ferrari dealer in zurich garage foitek and he said to me try to turn the battery out for at list one long night and after turn it on again
he sayd most times it fix the problem i turn to the 360 spider the battery out just about 4 hours ago so i need to wait till tommorow in the morning here in europe, i hope it works i will say to you if it worked wait till you try in your 599.
be carefull when you turn the batery out i dont know how it is in the 599 but in the 360 the alarm goes on that happend to me becose i closed the door and lock it and the light of the alarm was on so close de door only locking it with the remote the alarm light must be out and then turn the battery of i dont know where is located the batery in the 599.
that night the 360 spider is in the closed garage but without alarm im affraid
i hope it is still there tomorow maybe it is on the way to russia allready.
do anybody here in the forum tried that of the battery anybody knows something more about that.

as i said yesterday i turned the battery of and today just 2 hours ago i turned it on again and surprise the engine control system failure light
    was no more on.
try do do this the dealer sayd that to my and it works in most cases in my case i had luck it worked.
careful with the alarm as i wroted before in that post, you must leave the battery of at list 16 hours let it beter a little more 20 hours will be ok.
i hope it works also to you.
read the 599 manual for know how to turn of the battery and where is indicated the interuptor.
if the indicator light gows not out bring the 599 to dealer it can be a catalizator problem.

The battery cutoff is in the back in the trunk in this little box thing. I appreciate the advice but I'm scared to touch anything on this car for fear of messing something up. The light did go off after washing the car, but it needs to be checked for something else so I think were just gonna have the dealer pull the codes with a scanner and figure out whats wrong

you must have a look on the 599 manual how to turn of the battery, it is not the battery you must toch directly it is a round thing that turns left or right one side battery is off the other side battery is on,
when it whent off the warning you dont really need to bring the car to the dealer chech if it comes again out when it is so make the battery stuff it is not complicated a you need to tip the stereo system code after you reactive the battery.
the last time that hapend me the same thing i dont knowed that trik so i whent to a other ferrari dealer nearer of my home the ferrari dealer where i bought my ferrari is 1 hour from my home, they charged me about 600 dollars
for checking and turn of that light.
that time that ferrari dealer will now longer make bussiness when my car haves engine control system failure great that i called to the dealer in zurich where i bough the car he sayd that tip.
i know two other people they had also engine c s failure in two different 430
they sayd that always they make it like that they turn of the battery for about 20 hours and the next day it works they hade ecs failure several times
it is not rare thing in ferraris.

I've also got the ECS failure warning on my 599, I was going to get it towed to be checked out but there is nowhere to screw in the tow hook! It's not where the manual says it is. I'm going to try unhooking the battery for 24 hours and see if it clears.

I had the problem on my 599 and the ECU was returned to the factory and redone. Just got it back and drove maybe 50 miles.
I don't think turning off the battery switch fixes anything. I think it takes 3 faults to stay a problem and when you turn off the battery you reset the 3 faults back to 0. Then it will take 3 more for the check engine light to stay on.

i had this happen in my 599 and the dealer told me to open and close the gas cap and then start the car and drive for at least 10-15 minutes.....repeat 2 or 3 times if necessary and it worked.
    strange but true

I had the problem a couple of times. Easiest fix was to shut the car off and restart it. I have also had my electronics reset twice. No big deal. Never tried the battery disconnect

    Consult your manual.

Rebooting the computer is no big deal and often helps clear these kind of problems.

    Shut off Battery switch.
    Wait 2 Minutes.
    Switch it back on.
Start car but don't touch any controls or pedals for 10 minutes.

    Good to go.
