According to the Dutch pit reporter McLaren said it wasn't an engine problem for Alonso but something wrong with the gearbox. Although the reporter questioned that because then why would there be smoke coming out of the air intake?

Probably burnt off the fuel they wanted to burn off for race start. And then there is that two race engine rule, so conserve makes sense.

I am already scared of the possibility that Hamilton get passed Massa on Turn 1 or 2 and we have another runaway race for Lewis. I would really like to see Kimi get passed them both.

Could Alonso be on a 1-stop?

feel the same way lewis is a killer on the launch but massa is pretty seasoned now no doubt ferrari will tell him to follow the schumacher method and angle is tires in preparation to block right from the launch.

I don't think alonso can be on a 1 stop strategy since he's in the top 10. if i recall correctly the top 10 guys have to start with whatever fuel they have on board during qualifying.

Last year, we had a mix of two or three stop strategies. Nobody did a one stop. With the pit lane speed limit reduced, I think the field will mostly be two stops.

We've seen that Massa and the McLarens tend to go soft-soft-hard, but I get the impression that Kimi may try the hard-soft-soft combo again, to see if he can do better on Ham's tail than he did on Massa's. (I wonder if this isn't something the team came up with, to make sure Kimi wouldn't run his car to death early in the race.) But he has to be able to get off the line, too.

Hamilton was making as many mistakes on 15 as anyone -- but he was compensating better. And he's yet to finish below his grid position.

I'd speculate whether Alonso would eat the engine change, just to get off the same cycle with Hamilton -- but from 10th, at least he doesn't have to get around Coulthard. ;)

I've been waiting to see how Hamilton would do in the wet. But a dry race could be pretty interesting, with this grid.

    Bahrain: 1st and 3rd.

Heard it on the canadian broadcast. They have a guy at the track. Lewis has had some problems this weekend with his car. When its running its ok but they have been having some troubles getting it going.
I believe Alonso will go for the engine change and drop to 20th.

My race prediction are that Lewis will drop out with mechanicle problems and the Ferraris will finish 1-2. The start will be interesting as Massa will hold his line against Lewis. cant wait

The BMW and the Renaults are more of a concern. Renaults always have great starts, so if one of them can get past Raikkonen, he will have a problem. Not sure why you would want Kimi to pass Massa, Massa is the faster of the two and has the better chance of winning the WDC.

Certainly Hamilton will try to pass Massa for turn 1, but after watching Massa at the USGP, I do not think he will give an inch to Lewis. The key for Kimi will be to get a good start and then to tuck in behind his teammate and not give LH any room to get between them. If Kimi does not get a good start, the BMW will move over and Kimi will end up fourth at Turn 1.

If the track is dry Hamilton will not get passed Massa. He learned the hard way not to give an inch to Hamilton and he's been doing great since. If it's wet it will be interesting to see how Lewis does and if Felipe has improved at all since last year.

Alonso's problem was gearbox, not engine so he starts from 10th position. He's on row 5 with Nico.

anything can happen. but, if it stays dry, Massa will defend his line, and i think after so much of pressure this past few weeks, Kimi will get the jump on Hami.

Alonso, OTOH, will be running pretty light i think. he knows there's the Renaults and Jarno' The Train' Trulli ahead of him, so i don't think he wants to risk anything. he'll be hoping to make up places asap.

Alonso made it to Q3 so he must start with his fuel strategy he had chosen before he broke. He should be on one lap more or less then Hamilton.

Let's hope Mass and Hami do not take each other out! I hope Kimi makes a good start and has the "correct" tires to make a good start. Fisi, Kubi, and Heikki will be looking for a slow start from Kimi.
