Congrats. Macs are cool. Regarding RAM, I like maxing it out.

I am SOOOOooo close to pulling the trigger on a Macbook Pro. Making sure what options I want with it. I'm tired of fighting viruses and virus protection, which is just as bad as the viruses. Then I gotta figure out how it works!

Get the one on the left.
Student discount equals 1799$ for a Macbook Pro, a printer, and an iPod.
You really can't beat that deal for a Core 2 Duo 2.2ghz, 2gb ram, 15" screen, less than an inch thick, and a geforce 8600 with a 120gb hdd.

    Hey Ron

I just bought a Macbook pro a couple months ago for some of the same reasons, hadn't had anything but Windows since an Apple IIe a long time back. It's not that difficult to get used to using the Mac OS as long as you are openminded about learning to use computers on their terms. From an objective point of view OS X would probably be a lot easier for someone with no computer experience but I occasionally get frustrated with it because I wanted it do things and respond exactly the same as Windows. Overall though I like it quite a bit though it's not perfect and I have managed to lock it up a couple times.

I need to check the details, should be able to get the student discount. I can buy it for my daughter!

Mark - it'll be kind of a pain at first, but with perserverence and Shiner, one can achieve greatness!

A guy I work with just bought one with the student discount - in addition to everything else already mentioned, it was $100 off the Apple Care...

Oh yeah man, make sure you get the AppleCare. It's worth the peace of mine to know that for about 3 years no matter what happens, you can just drop your laptop off to an Apple Store and pick it up fixed later.

My dvd burner went out (lol, after about 300 burned dvd's) and I dropped it off Friday at 3PM or so. The "Genius" told me it'd be ready probably Monday and they'd give me a call.

They gave me a call at around 5PM and told me I could pick my laptop up (the same day!)

You can't beat that kind of turn around with other companies just because they don't have local stores that can service products.

As long as you know a college student, you can use that person's drivers license and college i.d. to get access to the student discount.

That means until July 23rd I think, you can get a free iPod, a free printer, 200$ off most Macs (or 100$ off the cheaper ones), and a hefty discount off accessories (like AppleCare). It makes the products very aggressively priced.

Hey guys, I dont post much here, but i'm always browsing. Anyways, I too just bought a MacBook this week. My VAIO was just getting too slow. I did a fresh install of XP and it was just as quick when new. I was tired of it though, and having a mac Mini already, I knew I wanted a Macbook, so I sold my VAIO.

I bought mine for $1189 out the door, no taxes! How and Where do you ask? Through the Navy Exchange on base. I'm thinking about taking it back and exchange it for a MacBook Pro, 15" is $1689.

So if you know anyone in the military or that works for the military, you can get it through the different military exchanges. If you're local exchange doesnt carry them, they can order one for you. Or if you dont have a base close to you, they can be ordered through www.aafes.com . Only service members may order through aafes, you will have to log in using DOB and service number.

Take note though, prices I posted are for my local exchange, they are on sale. AAFES prices are $100 more.

Maybe its not too late to do so, if you're still young enough. Im thinking about going back all the time, even though USAF life is pretty nice.

    Semper Fi , my friend.

Throwing around the idea, thinking about getting half my schooling out of the way and then I'm going to figure it out from there.

I don't want to go OT, but let's just say I'm a lot better with a computer than I am with a gun.

Not everyone in the Marines , or the military, is walking around with a gun. Err..actually every Marine is a rifleman first, so you always carry weapon with you no matter what, unlike those other "military" services http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/images/icons/icon12.gif

Anyways , there is alot more to the Marines than infantry. You can be a computer tech if you wanted to. Talk to your local recruiter for more info, or even better , talk to the OSO (officer selection officer) at your nearest MEPS if you want to go in with a commission.

For those trying to get out taxes, Amazon is usually a good way to go. Also, if you are in college still, try checking your campus bookstore. I got a good deal one mine there.
