Maybe those are the ones in the warehouse-near-the-airport in Las Vegas, that some mentioned in the other thread?

Quite a few consecutive numbers in that bunch too.

I realise it's a long-shot, and maybe this is a stupid question; But have you tried contacting Ferrari?

Quite a few of those cars are indeed Modern Classic Motors cars. I can't find records anywhere showing that they were ever registered in any state. Its like they just dropped off the face of the earth.

Go ahead David, take a guess you can't be any more wrong than anyone else. What do you think happened to them? Sent to Latin & South America? Destroyed in an insurance scam? Still locked away somewhere?

I haven't tried contacting the factory. That could be interesting.

I am 10402's custodian. '75 S1, originally Burgundy with tan leather.

Sold by Newport Sport Cars, Inc, Newport CA on 10/12/76 to Caravia & Sons/Komfort Industries Inc., Santa Ana for $23000. A '75 Maserati Merak was traded and given a value of $10000 (suggesting the Maserati's were partial to a bit of depreciation even then...). Odometer showed 80 miles at the time of sale.

    * Komfort Industries was founded by a Manuel Caravia and I think built caravans, and the Dino may have been Manuel Caravia's personal car. Just guessing.

Komfort owned the car until at least 1986, during which time the car was painted silver with boxer trim (as far as I can tell not prompted by an accident...). I suspect the leather was died from tan to crema as well (its all a bit faded now but responding to Leatherique).

At some point in 1986-1987 Lynn Eldgridge of Balboa Island became the owner (perhaps a Komfort employee..), who then sold the car to Gerry Wilburn for $25000 in June 1988 ($2k more then when bought new...ok, inflation not accounted for but better than the Merak..).

I bought the car from Gerry and shipped it to Connecticut earlier this year - so Gerry had the car for over 20 years. I believe he may have owned a Ferrari 195s s/n 060mm at some time as well (wow!).

Anyway, the car is getting some refurbishment as we go but my plan is to drive it, not restore it! It's done some 76000miles and I believe the engine has not been apart (lots and lots of documentation came with the car).

The forum and its members have been very helpful so far!

Maybe these cars were subject to a huge insurance job, and somebody got paid..

except 10348, and 10402 of course....

During appx the last 2 years I have been in the Peace Corps and have kept my Fcar addiction satisfied via Fchat. Guy's pics of his GT4 in silver/boxer really looks good. My GT4 is put away and I've seen only for a couple weeks during a leave, didn't drive it though,I'll be back home next June.
Anyways my car is silver/boxer and I have been debating with myself about doing a repaint to a metallic blue. Then Guy's pics appear and it reminds me that color scheme really isn't too bad. Now the debate in my mind continues again on what to do.

More importantly, thanks to Fchat, I can see what my car looks like back home albeit tucked away under cover, full of moth balls and all the wheels detached. There are also a few other things apart awaiting my return and some timely, and upgrade maintenance program.

Guy's pics were my Xmas present.
Thanks and Merry Xmas to all out there

    Cal

I sure do! Gt car parts wanted $25 for a used one but we weren't sure which one was the correct depth...

I think it's 10878 as all gt4s are even numbers.

sad to see these cars rust away

Must be an 8...like Kali says. The VIN from the door jamb looks like it was carefully removed.

I wonder if a stolen Dino GT4 will now appear with the 10878 VIN?

Dave, you are close to me....do you have a garage/workshop and can you keep a secret from my wife? I know you want to scratch the GT4 itch again? We have the parts, we can rebuild it....

Well i can keep a secret from your wife, but mine has been eying the garage. If this was on the right coast it would be tempting to look at.
