I can get a new in the box OEM 348 climate control unit for $2500.00. I may never need it. Worth buying and keeping just in case? I know someday I can sell it probably for more than that. How often do they go bad?

I've pulled mine out and repaired it once already, maybe twice. Simple circuit boards inside. There are some companies that will repair them for you (typically about $350 for the total repair cost).

Would I buy a $2,500 NOS unit for something that could be repaired for $350 *if* it failed someday? Well, that would be low on my list.
