We also have to remember it is what the PRESS said he said, not actually what he said.

Remember the truth is far from any training that a British reporter (or any reporter for that matter) gets.

Once again we are in "making mountains out of molehills" territory...

What did he say that is such a big deal? He said the team was pushing for him to win in Spain and they will likely push for Hamilton to win in Britain. This is a surprise?

I didn't see any reference to team orders or any such race-fixing. Nor do I see his comments as being whining or in any way detrimental to team morale, as some here have suggested. It sounds to me like he is saying the bleeding obvious: his team would like to see their drivers win their home GP. What is so wrong about that?

Alonso can't win on these boards, no matter what he says...

    Sadly agree.

There are way too many on this great site that simply hate everything that is not Ferrari. Pathetic IMO. Open your minds ...

If everyone knows its true, then why bother saying it? Everyone knows Fisichella is the #1 driver at Renault, but he doesn't say things like "of course I am the number one driver at Renault, and therefore beating Heiki is quite easy for me".

It's about class, sportsmanship, team spirit and knowing when to keep your yap shut - which Fernando doesn't do nearly as much as he should.

To me, if everyone knows what he's saying is true, then it's more about setting up the excuses ahead of time than about stating the obvious. I think the team may want Lewis to win, but I am 100% sure each driver will be given every chance and every bit of help from McLaren to effect their win. No driver will be favored in terms of equipment, effort or help from the team.

So it's Alonso's race to lose, or win - depending on whether he feels like driving or whining that day :)

If its so bleeding obvious then why say it at all? You know that the team isnt going to like it. Alonso has to learn to shut his mouth. You would think he would understand that when his manager tells him in spanish even. (and Im sure he has been told) Unless he has his sights on another team for next season and I sure hope its not Ferrari!

Nick - this is so very true. It's really astonishing to read the displays of anger shown in the posts here and on other relative threads . . .truly scary what their fingers type . . .time out for Ferrari Chat On-Line Anger Management classes. I'd hate to meet these people face to face and debate something.

Remember Mercedes experience in the Grand Prix Belgium, 1935?

Their "new guy" Luigi ***ioli wanted so badly to catch and pass their lead driver, Caracciola, that he was breaking the lap record time and again at the very end of the race when Mercedes had them running an assured 1 & 2...

Team manager Neubauer flagged him in for a severe reprimand, and Luigi cursed him to his face and abandoned the car. Von Brauchitisch was called to take it over, and did miracles to catch up the lost time and finish second.

Two years later, at the Tripoli GP - and now back with AutoUnion, ***ioli nearly killed Caracciola with a hammer behind the pits.

Where are all the REALLY colorful drivers & managers nowadays?

How about Ron Dennis, Stepney and Coughlan for starters. Today they use white powder (aka detergent), lawyers and computers instead of hammers. :D

I've been wondeering when SF would hire a Sicilian Actuary to resolve the Dennis, Coughlan, Stepneygate situation. Maybe I've seen too many "Godfather" movies and "The Sopranos" shows on TV. ;)

Or in other words, no matter what Alonso has to say, you will find something to complain about...

Alonso said nothing wrong. McLaren did nothing wrong. You guys just want something to p1ss and moan over.

This is a problem of F1 race fans of all teams, it seems. Whether it's calling a driver who wins a few races "the next Schumacher" or saying McLaren ought to be banned from the WDC this year based on the info known, people are always very quick on here to rush to judgement.

For the Stepney situation, it's not surprising that mostly Ferrari fans on this site have a major beef with McLaren. McLaren is the team currently whipping Ferrari in the WDC and WCC, and have been Ferraris biggest rival over the years. So people are veeeeeery quick to connect the dots from the documents being found at the McLaren guys house to a big plot by the Mac guy to take down Ferrari.

Did Stepney push to give him the docs or did the Mac guy push to receive them? Who initiated the deal, who pushed it through and for what reason?

Did the Mac guy take them and pore over them looking to one-up Ferrari or did he sort of say "ummm, yeah, gee, thanks Nige" and roll his eyes as he walked away, dumping the docs on his desk from thereon?

We need to know before we can make ANY conclusions on this one. Its waaaay premature to suggest Mac be banned for any # of races or have any point stripped. Unless they prove to be complicit in this, which I doubt will ever be proven (and I doubt its even likely)

I honestly do think I call it like I see it in regards to Alonso. I think there *is* a lot of hatred (much of it unwarranted) of the man here - mostly because he's one of two guys whipping Ferrari this year, and you are probably keeping your Alonso-defenses turned to 11 the whole time, and being a bit sensitive to any criticism levied his way, no? :)

I am not one of those folks who think the two WDC's he won were hollow victories, nor do I think he's a crappy driver. I think he's fast, he's pretty cool (although not the master of cool as he's often said to be - as shown by the large number of mistakes he makes when he's in a real pressure situation).

however, he most definitely IS a whiner. Sure, he's not the only one on the grid - not by a long shot, but he damn sure is one of them! When things do not go his way, he whines. And he's pre-whining for this race. Is Alonso insinuating that McLaren wants Lewis to win more, therefore they will be helping him more? He didn't say that, but he sure is implying it. If that's the case, he should keep his yap shut and let his driving do the talking. If he's just speculating aimlessly about what McLaren wants, then it's a fruitless endeavour because it does absolutely nothing to help him and his race, and definitely does hurt his team and his credibility - so why say it?

At a minimum, he needs to learn to shut his trap, and more likely it's just more whining!
