So do I, but if you get paid to race then shouldn't you be able to win a race once in a while??? Sorry just thinking out loud again.......lol

 

The guy is not going anywhere for a long time, but I agree you never know what can happen. I think he is more of a Ron Dennis product than McLaren.

 

As a New York Mets fan, I thought the same thing about Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry....never say never.

Besides, F1 is about engineering and technology now more than ever. Good engineers are really what will carry the day, unless there are massive rule changes, and I'm not talking about hybrid F1 cars either.

 

I agree 110% He won't be going anywhere in the near future or maybe not in the distant future, but to say he'll never drive for any other team is just absurd, who's to know what lies ahead on the road.

The "KID," Lewis Hamilton, is just as a Genuine Bonofide Sporting Phenomonon, as Mohammed Ali and Tiger Wood and Michael Schumacher too! Yes his talent was developed with Ron Dennis, guiding him, with this end in mind.

He needs to be financially rewarded for his astounding performance as McLaren's Amazing Driver. His 2 time, WDC team-mate, Fernando Alonzo, I'm sure is also amazed! He has delivered beyond expectations! The money can be found from the sponsor's racing budget's, for a few million pounds.

I now realise that I've seen a documentary on this a few years ago. Didn't realise it was Hamilton (and some other young drivers) until now. It goes very far this training programme. Too far? Maybe it was the last unexploited area to improve a team's performance (and I bet not as dear as a 24 hour windtunnel).
I'm just wondering how such a training could prepare someone for unexpected situations. Could Lewis force a break on the circuit if he's stuck? You can't train/simulate all race situations can you? But it might explain why he got by Kubica in one attempt (with full fuel load!) in France where Alonso couldn't (pass Heidfeld) for multiple laps.

p.s. I now begin to wonder if Massa also did some similar training. He's improved quite a lot too in the mental area although he doesn't hide his disappointment which is good to see (because only human).

Lewis is paid £340K, which is $680K. Still peanuts though.

Lewis is clearly a very talented driver, and not just some robot. He has been groomed for greatness from an early age, but he didn't have rich parents like Senna or his own kart track like Schumacher. Everyone on the grid had some kind of advantage that got them there. They are all mega-talented. It is true that Lewis would not be leading the Championship if he'd been in a Spyker, but he has still beaten an experienced double-champ. Lewis has delivered completely and not made a mistake yet. Even if he crashes atthe first corner on Sunday and never wins another race he has shown himself to be an amazing talent.

 

Ofcourse the programme won't work with just anybody picked up from the street. There has to be talent to start with. I was wondering if the documentary still airs somewhere. I think I saw it on Discovery Channel or NG.

I read the article that you refered to, and didn't know of this specific training. I remember that MS, had developed an excercise regime and used similar methods, but not to this extent for his training regime. I'm sure that this has developed from Military Training Requirements along the line and helps develop the mental and reflex conditoning needed for this level (F1), competition. As stated, NASA used this 40 years ago. Look at all the Video Games, that are in Normal Life.

I think that the "Kid," has talent, and with this advanced refinement in his training, he is that much further along. It gives him experience of a mature veteran, with the reflexes of youth, that are fleeting as we all age. It has come to this and those who choose to compete, must do the same, or be also-rans. Changes the F1 Sport, no doubt. But F1 changed a while ago, too.

Sorry, but this is overblown. Not that mental training isn't an important part, particularly in a sport like F1, but we had a similar coach on our swim team when I was a kid (and now that I think about it, my relay mate Jeff Rouse did win olympic gold...)

There is no secret neuroscience "brainwashing." It's simply learning advanced self control. You are making it sound like he can't function without someone whispering commands in his ear.

good, now maybe everyone will get off the Lewis coming to Ferrari kick. I'm glad. I'd rather see Ferrari beat him than join him. Kimi and Felipe had the 1-2 this last race didn't they? It can happen. Right now they're just in a slightly inferior car.

 

Sorry Pete - I think you just don't want to accept that there is something very special about this kid.

To dismiss his accomplishments by saying that he has been "manufactured" is quite bizarre. Every single sport has training methods (both mental and physical) that have evolved into the space age. By your logic, we have football and hockey stars who have definitely been "manufactured" (and I'm not talking about steroids) - are you saying they don't deserve the respect that previous generations received?

 

It's actually a pretty slick idea, almost like using telemetry on yourself. You go through a simiulator over and over and someone else analyzes your own actions to try and help you ingrain what is not intuitive. You cannot do it alone, because you cannot accurately assess what you are doing wrong - you need a specialist for that (just like data analysis on the car)

If you take it all the way, you (the F1 driver) don't ever want to have conscious thought guiding your actions, you want every movement to be completely reactive. Conscious thought is too slow and biased. You only want that to control the big things like "his car is faster here, so I will attack here instead" or "time to pit". Never things like "I should be braking a little less". That stuff should be the same as opening your hand.
