For 120$ you should get a 500gb hdd..... That one requires a power adapter, are you unable to read ? Go buy a Lacie 500gb Porsche hdd from www.newegg.com http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822154150
This a really good thread about external drive, pros, cons & what to look for. I ended up building my own. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=138114
Lacie external HD are very nice. I dont own one personally but i know 3-4 people who do and they love them.
You'll be hard pressed to find something decent, drawing power from USB2.0 or Firewire isn't smart, but since you asked... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136059
OfficeDepot has a 320GB Western Digital this week for like $119 I am going to pick one of those up, but mainly because it has a FireWire connection which is great for my use.
lacie is the way to go. I have all of my logic pro stuff backed up on a lacie 500gb, and its never given me any problems.
Powering from usb or firewire is unstable. Not all computers have stable enough lines. DeuceRooster - That's not really a sale. 320gig for 120$? Did you see my link? For 15$ you get 500gb. That's for Lacie hdds, there are much cheaper drives out there...
From one of your notes, you are loking for somthing small and not 120 powered. Buy or scavenge a laptop hard drive for $40 and a $15 case at Fry's, Best Buy, etc. Runs off USB. I haven't had a problem with mine in 3 years.
