Guess the threat is "if you come after me, I'll talk." Where's a Sicilian actuary when you really need one. ?
Well I look at this in a differant way, there must be punishment, I feel it would be appropriate do dock McLaren construtors point, ultimately I feel they should be excluded from the constructors championship completely. I do need to state that I have never had much time for Ron Dennis or McLaren.
Sh!tney says he knows where the bodies are buried. With a good Sicilian actuary he may be with those bodies sooner than he thinks.
How come when all this news broke Sh!tney was on hols and nothing about all this about been followed and been chased he was on holiday sunning him self, then the news broke about the documents being found and now its poor me and i am going to tell all as a threat. I dont think Ferrari have any thing to be worried about as lots of people have left and nothing came out. Its the typical response of a weak Man who threw the toys out of the pram when he didnt get his own way.
Possibly. But, latest quote from Stepney: I categorically deny that I copied them [the documents] or that I sent them to Mike Coughlan, Stepney was quoted as saying yesterday. I knew I was being watched all the time at the factory and that everything I did or said was being reported back, and that people knew whenever I accessed files on the computer. I have no idea how anything came into Mikes possession. If he has some documents, they came from another source. The plot thickens......In the same way that I'm keeping an open mind wrt whether RD knew anything, I'm going to do the same with Stepney - At least until the FIA concludes it's investigation/coverup...... Cheers, Ian
My feeling is that the FIA won't get into the details of who knew what or who gave what documents to whom. That will be part of the criminal investigation by the Italian authorities. I think the FIA will only focus on whether any Ferrari technology has found its way into the McLarens and base any penalties on that alone.
Dear Chatmates There is an IMPORTANT fact we are not conscious about, and that is that McLaren started being competitive in Monaco (may), that is curious, because the documens were stolen in April, so who thinks now that Ron Dennis was notaware of this? and in any case they took profit from this direct or inderictly, so if all apperas to be truth, they should be punished, this is a state of the arttechnology competition and millions of $, time and experience is used on all. JUSTICE - PUNISH SPIES...
Much like a few others are saying, we have to be cautious in jumping to conclusions on this matter. Reading through the various articles, two things jump out at me; 1) Stepney's disharmony with Ferrari sounds plausible...it's a corporate culture issue and 2) it sounds like Stepney/Coughlan were plotting a move from both Ferrari and McLaren. I "know" about as much as everyone else here, but my impression is that the information didn't go to McLaren. They were stealing intellectual property in an effort to build a technical team at Honda. Again, this is just my read on it.
+1 Only edit I would make is "build a technical team anywhere they could"..... Honda just appeared to be a likely target. And, as I've been trying to say for a while, *please* at least try and keep an open mind. Thankyou Further, Stepney just "categorically denied" doing any such thing [Yes, I know he also said some silly **** as well, but I can't help thinking many of us would also say some silly $**** in his current position.] My 02c, Cheers, Ian
Yes Iam thinking more on these lines it seems plausiable. getting disgruntled at a team moving on armed with knowledge you aquired. Iam sure it goes on all the time. getting caught there downfall..
+1 That sounds far more plausible than some of the insipid banter that has been permeating this whole issue. Plenty of commentators here seem ready and willing to haul Ron Dennis to the gallows for the crime of employing someone caught up in this debacle. I have yet to see or read anything that suggests any of this information went any furhter at McLaren than beyond Coughlan. However some here are so blinded by their partisanship that the mere hint of an impropriety is more than sufficient to go off the rails calling for draconian penalties against the team. Ridiculous leaps of logic and a complete waste of bandwidth.
+2 Imagine what kind of 08 chassy they can build knowing lessons learned from SWB McLaren and LWB Ferrari
I won't go as far as saying I buy what he's selling, but anyone who's lived in a strong corporate culture knows that his statements don't exactly ring hollow. Ferrari sounds like the "either you're with us or against us" type of organization and he allowed himself to become disgruntled at the way Todt restructured the technical organization. That said, he had to know things would not end well for him. We'll see how it all shakes out.
