    So Cal
I am thinking about buying a Ferrari which will run about $300k.

I would appreciate any recommendations that you might have about insurance carriers that will insure a car like this. My existing auto insurers are not interested.

    Thanks

Depending on your usage, Hagerty may be a better choice if it will be a lightly used car. If it's a daily driver with more than 5,000 miles a year a more traditional insurer may be better. I would find an independent insurance agent in your area and have them shop the policy to several insurers. It will help with premiums if you offer more business to the insurer, such as your home, life, disability etc.

Hagerty is quoting $5000 per year on a $300k car driven 2500 miles per year or less. My driving record is absolutely clean.

I have no idea if that is high or if it is OK. Any comments would be appreciated.

What you are planning to do with the vehicle will have a huge impact on the cost of your insurance. If you plan to use it as a daily driver and will be parking it on the street in San Francisco or Los Angeles, you will pay more than if you plan to drive it 2,500 miles per year to club and recreational functions.

You will get a better deal if you combine all of your insurance with this car. However, this car could drag down the rest of your insurance costs. Be smart.

I simply called my regular car insurance company in NJ and after a few days (because they had to actualy price it with an underwriter) I got a quote a few hundred dollars a year over what insuring my Audi cost.

My Audi was not a commute car - say 5 - 6 K a year recreational driving. Other than saying the same use I made no representations about where I would drive or park.

They said the car is not subject to theft nor frequent damage. They had a hard time getting their head around the fact that the car sticker was X in 2003 and I paid X plus in 2007. Said: "that is not possible", I said

Welcome to the world of Ferrari.

My 360 is $95 per month through USAA. Can't beat that IMO.

There can be many, many dependencies; deductibles, allowed weekly and annual mileage, vehicle use (commute or collector), driver's age, age of other household members, driving record, claim record (different than driving record) multiple cars, multiple policy lines (home, liability, life, etc.). My cars get driven quite a bit, and all are used occasionally for work commute. I also carry a moderate deductible ($5-10K) to reduce my rates significantly. With the exception of race cars, State Farm has covered all of my cars for 25 years at competitive rates.

They'll cover exotics? I hadn't called them yet but in looking at the web site I got the impression they didn't cover Ferrari's or other >$100k replacement cost cars.

Farmers insures my Lotus. Might try them. They have an agreed value deal but less restrictions than Hagerty. I can "occasionaly drive the car for any purpose except racing."

It is an insurance carrier for active duty, honorably discharged and retired military service persons. They have insured my Lambo, currrent Boxer and all my past and present motorcycles with no problems. Of course, I am in my early 40s and have a perfect driving record.

I recently started a policy on a car with parish heacock which is now heacock classic. Their web site is here:
    http://www.heacockclassic.com/site/
They offer new and classic sports car insurance based on the value of the car. Really nice people and they have a great reputation. My policy for up to 5000 miles per year for a $20k value is around $270 per year. Hagerty wanted around $1000 for the same coverage.

I'm 22, lol, but it is insured under my dad. It would have cost about $200/month for me to have it insured under me. It doesn't matter though, because USAA covers anyone who drives the vehicle, unlike many other insurance companies.

^Oh, and it is insured for 7K miles per year. I don't think that matters either though, because I've had other cars that were insured for like 2K miles, and I drove them more than that.

Used to have Farmers for all my policies but when they refused to insure DB9, I switched to Chubb.
Chubb is very easy, they understand the world of real market value vs MSRP.
