If you time it you'll see that from Etoile to Pl de la Concorde on the Champs Elysees took him 1 minute. It's 2 km. so he was doing roughly 120 km/h

The car was not an R5 Turbo, and it wasn't shot in 1976. It was shot in 1967 and it was a 275 GTB.

Bless your heart....this clip is probably older than dirt, reposted DOZENS of times, debated, refuted, etc. Oh, and its for sale - its called "Rendezvous", available on DVD for years....first time I saw it was probably 1995.

Michael is correct. I got the whole story when I posted it a couple of years ago. It is a great video though and always fun to watch.

the general view seems to be that it was a Mercedes with dubbed sound.

Lelouch confessed he used his own Mercedes.

It was indeed, there are photos of the movie maker Claude Lelouch sitting in the car with the camera mounted. I have also seen a video made in later years where a journalist and Lelouch drive through those streets and he tells the story behind his film

The guy said : What did you do for the sound ?
Claude Lelouch : I did it twice, the second time, with a Ferrari (then the sound was dubbed).
The guy : Why didn't you use a car more sporty than the Mercedes ?
Claude Lelouch : Because the Mercedes got an hydro-pneumatic suspension and I wanted the image to be clean, fluid...

We said "let's do it during the night and the early morning, we did it. I was at the wheel and there were two friends of mine, cinema technicians in the car".

Yeah, its fake, it was a Mercedes i think. I remember watching something about it on tv or youtube, but how to create your own "Rendezvous" through Paris.

    Hi, everyone,

The 275 GTB was always my dream Ferrari, but with the current market it appears I will never have one.

Does anyone have some in-car video from a "normal" drive in a normal car or know of some on the web, so I can hear what I'm missing? I know Rendezvous was shot with a 275GTB, but I wouldn't call that a normal drive and I don't know where the microphone was placed. I found some video of a 275GTS on youtube, but the wind noise makes it hard to hear the engine.

Here's what I uploaded to youtube, as an example. I imagine there are people on this forum who have used their cars for various events and have video from it. Uploading to youtube is easy.

    Thanks

    Jim

Interesting -- the car driven was a Mercedes and then he overdubbed sound from his 275GTB. Kind of makes the film a fraud, doesn't it?

No way! Regardless of what car did it, it still went screaming crazily down the streets of Paris, and it's still extremely exhilarating to watch. Sure, it would've been more fun if the car behind the camera was a Ferrari, but remember, this is a movie made by a director - he's going for entertainment value first and foremost, so it shouldn't surprise you that the sound was dubbed in later.

Can't help with a 275 I'm afraid, this short clip was taken in my cut Daytona in Nov. Stuck behind a slow 430 driver on a narrow road unfortunately!

    Ian,

    Thanks for the link.
    Beautiful car!

With all the cars owned by people on this site we could assemble a video library of "virtual" drives if we wanted to.
    Anyone else up for it?

    Jim
