mags you like typing with emphasis dont you? ;)
RuFMD,410SA, Don't know what we all ate yesterday but seems like we had a little misunderstanding..all is well now and like RUF said...no hard feelings towards any one....
430 are fabulous cars... Maby in 30 years you'll realize you traded a mercedes gullwing and a porsche 550 for 2 ferrari 308.......
if you actually didnt understand what i ment I ment all the underlines and italics very nice and im glad to hear youll soon have a stablemate to go with the f430 crew and if you could only have one f430 would it be coupe or spider?
Magwheel, I notice few of your posts refer to the actual driving experience, these cars seem more like trinkets to possess/look at than anything else. To compare the CGT and F430 along lines of..... "I won't argue with you that the CGT is probably a better car design wise, mechanically and structurally. But I think the F430 interior is of finer quality, controls are more user friendly and the audio system is certainly better." ......seems to be missing the point somewhat of a CGT. It's a racecar for the road, not meant to be a comfortable crusing car. To even mention the audio system is better, is frankly ludicrous. And then you buy 2 versions of the same car, one for for sunny days and one for cruising in poorer weather? Would it be hard to raise the roof on the 430 Spider then? Anyway, it takes all sorts, enjoy your cars. It's probably a good thing that the CGT and SLR will end up in the hands of people that can appreciate them more.
Agreed. Ferraris are all-around great cars. Speed, handling, ease of use, fun... and something many "latest & greatest" techno cars don't have - a great history of being the best when it comes to sports cars Congrats on your new horses! The F430 is a great machine.
No, you missed the point. He wasn't knocking the CGT - he understands and appreciates what kind of car it is and what it is meant for...but he has decided that he is at a place in life where he wants something that is easier to drive daily with more creature comforts. You should try and comprehend their post and the meaning behind it before taking a jab at someone.
al70, Geez, And I thought you were a nice guy! What's with all the negative waves? Have you ever driven or been in a CGT? Have you ever been in or driven a SLR? If you haven't done either, then you don't have a valid opinion..... now do you? You know, every once in a while I run across someone like you who is miserable because someone might have a better car or more cars than you. If you read any of my other posts on this or any other forum, I don't blow my horn about my being able to afford the cars I have. In fact, I've always said that if it wasn't for my FATHER, I would probably be driving a moped of some kind. All I do is come on various forums and give my my driving experiences of cars I've been LUCKY enough to own! Isn't that what car forums are all about??? I come on these forums and express my love for every car I've owned. Some of my cars are more fun and enjoyable to drive a lot. Some as wild and fantastic as they are, present some minor problems that become a little bit of a hassle every time you drive them. Here's some more ammunition for your your 'misery' cannon. Did you know that the SLR has NO power port for a radar detector other than the cigarette lighter plug underneath the armrest. Plug in the detector and the armrest won't close and stays up about 2" or so. NO radar detector to keep the armrest closed, 'Mucho Grande' speeding tickets! Minor, but still a pain! Getting in the SLR is fairly easy.... getting out is a hassle. Rear visibility is at best so... so with blind spots on both sides. The long nose keeps you on your toes making sure you don't get too close to curbs or other obstacles. The CGT....Stopping on the slightest upgrade is a big time nerve wracking. People of all sorts crawl up your ass because they want a closer look of the CGT. That's induces concern about the possibility of stalling the car because of the 'hairy' clutch. If that does happen, the rear observer begins to move and then slams into your ass because the CGT suddenly stops! Really exciting... isn't it? Yeah I know..... you're great..... you'd never stall the CGT! Getting in and out of the CGT is pretty damn hard. I've let kids and grown-ups of all ages sit in the car so they could experience the feeling and every one of them laughs at how nimble you have to be to get in and out. The audio controls and readouts are super hard to see. I wear reading glasses and even then they're still a pain. Oh... I forgot, the CGT being a race car shouldn't have a damn radio or A/C.... sorry! Rear visibility like in the SLR is not so great. And to be honest..... the CGT was so FAST, it scared the hell out of me! I NEVER had the pedal to the floor! Sorry that I disappointed you by not being Michael Schumaker. I don't race or abuse any of my cars! I enjoy them by driving them around in a respectable manner and getting on them for short bursts of speed up to 100-110 mph so as to not hurt myself or anyone else on the highway. The F430 Coupe and Spider, although the same car in general, drive and give the owner a slightly different driving experience. If you don't think they do, call Ferrari and tell them to stop making one or the other! The F430 is very easy getting in and out, driving all around town, parking, and more performance manageable the the CGT. I owned it for 2 years and loved her but I wanted a car I could drive a lot more. As far as "It takes of ALL sorts," You're damn right it does! You sound like the master owner of that phrase! "Go ahead..... make my day!" Magwheel
This thread makes me laugh. Magwheel was just stating that he made a move on some cars and now he is a lot happier then before. We all agree that the Carrera GT and SLR are great cars, but not for everybody. I think the F430 is a great car, and I would own a coupe and spider if I could too. You made a great move Magwheel. Congrats!
Magwheel, apologies as was not meant to come across as a personal "jab", as another has put it. I did try to delete the last line of my post, which I thought was overly harsh but as don't visit here often, had problems with the edit. Anyway, I am aware of the issues with the CGT clutch but it did not put me off trying to acquire a black one. This has been hard as so many are tucked up in garages, going nowhere. As a result, I've given up and ordered something else. Perhaps that will help you understand where my post was coming from. Enjoy your cars.
Hi al70, Explanation greatly appreciated! The clutch on the CGT is not that severe but it's always on your mind, especially in heavy traffic. You do eventually get used to it after a couple of weeks, but you're still wondering what IF! It's a shame you couldn't find a CGT for yourself. It really is a fantastic car and was a real pleasure to have in my garage.... and on the road. Like I said before, I enjoyed all the cars I owned. Some were just plain simple to drive a lot more. I'm kinda looking forward to this Tuesday with great anticipation! Al, thanks for getting back to me and saying hi. Magwheel
First things first - I am a Ferrari guy. I love them, I own them and I drive one every day, but I must come to to the defence of the CGT. The clutch stories are simply media hype and I know that owners who drive their CGT's are used to the clutch, almost within the first half hour of driving it. Clutches require feel in modulating them and any stiff, short action clutch requires your brain to rewire itself as to the effort and modulation required. Having done that, the CGT is a spectacular car. It pushes all the right buttons for me and I love to drive it. It presents challenges on urban streets where there are speed bumps and poor rutted surfaces, but no more than I would face in the F40 or F50. The sound the CGT makes is like no other car. The V10 just sounds perfect, wound up at the right tension and the engines revs so unbelievably quickly to redline that the sound is spine tingling. It really sounds as close to a race car as you can get in a street legal exhaust setup. The speed of the car is obvious and thrilling, but the real beauty of this car is in the ease with which it makes transitions - in turns, in braking and accelerating. I feel absolutely confident every time I drive the car that it will do exactly what I intend it to do, and that is rare in a very high powered supercar. I agree the 430 is a far friendlier car to drive on a daily basis, but then again so is a Lexus. The CGT is the consumate modern supercar for me, much more so than the Enzo. Enjoy the 430's. Drive the heck out of them. Ferraris, and all exotics are best appreciated on the move.
Oh Micheal, you naughty boy. You did it again. Enjoy your F430s. I'm hoping you do one of your nice one page reviews for us after a month of ownership on the F430s. Both the Spyder and coupe. Take care buddy. -Shayan
awesome cars! I'm really disappointed in everyone that's posted to this thread. NO ONE HAS ASKED TO SEE PICTURES OF THE GARAGE. I bet that has to be an amazing garage to see. Pictures please
Magwheel, congrats on your garage change. Accumlating cars is a personal event and complicating decison process. I have several cars. I am not a collector because that means you have a plan, I do not. I am more off an amasser. Each car scratchs a niche and is a differenent experince to drive. I love my 2006 F430F1, but I also like my Lotus Elise Sport etc. My car buddies who are into exotics where horrified when I bought a Ford GT. I love the car. Does it drive as good as the F430, no but it is a gentley tune drive with more power. Does the Lotus handle better than the F430, yes but the F car has more leather and 2 1/2 times the power. The '66 vette makes me feel like a kid again for cruising. It is slow in comparison to my other sport cars but i like it. My muscle car freinds do not understand the Ferrari fetish I have. They are always telling me "why spend 13 times the price of a normal car for a Ferrari"? That is okay they do not have to understand or appreciate the F car. I do! I must admit there are few old American cars i like. Most did not handle well when they were new and have probably not got much better with age. Some like the two I own just excite me looking at them. I have a fetish for new cars because they drive better and have more power, but again I am always looking for another niche of driving experince. I have a 599 on order for Feb. My Ferrari dealer in Orlando has a 599 for sale asking $120K over list. Give them a call. The car is on his show room floor. He has two on the floor but I think one has been spoken for. Like you I am going to wait and get list or close to it. it took me 2 years to get my F430 at list. That is okay I liked my 2003 360 Modena while I was waiting. The 360 is a wonderful car! Question on the Porsche Carrerra: I have been thinking about buying one of these instead of the 599. I am curious on your experience with the car. Did it give you good service? How did you find the clutch? I almost bought one last year, but bougth the ford GT instead. I have been happy with the FGT. Strangly the Lotus is probably my favorite car. Mine is the Sport which is set up for racing, #8 of 50 built. I drive like the old person I am but I love the car. it has the best handling and agility I have ever enjoyed. Each of my cars get pulled out of my garage every 6 weeks or so to drive for a week. Then I put it back and enjoy another car niche. Great story thank you for sharing your adventure. FYI, my current stable is 2006 F430 F1 2005 Ford GT 2006 Lotus Sport 1965 427 Shelby Cobra 1999 Porsche 911 cab (my get go get milk car) 1966 Corrvette Roadster (all orginal) 2005 Mercedes Benz E320 2001 Toyota Highlander ( sorry have to have one normal car, besides it never dies) 2007 BMW R1200 RT 2007 Harley Davidson Softail Custom 2006 Honda Goldwing ( I am getting old) Plus boat & wave riders. One wave rider two seater has been modifed to 265 HP. I go out on the lake to scare teenage kids on the week ends Lee
