I might even buy them a beer or two? I know the auction has ended, but he still has it!
i know, when we compared gearboxes yesterday we saw that my GT4's box is completely different to any other. I have always wondered why i have no problem changing into 2nd from cold, or why the clutch is so easy on mine.. So we believe I have a racing gearbox... So all I need is the racing engine to go with it?
There all a nightmare going into 2nd when they are cold, its to do with the synchromesh or something technical. My 83Qv is just the same and so was my friends 89 328
Nope, mine is as easy as the Ford Focus parked next to it... straight from cold, it always has been (since I have had it).
Maybe you got lucky, or yours is something special. Although I would have thought a racing clutch would be heavier than normal to take the extra power?
I have to say on this I bow to your experience, the clutch is standard (put it on my self). yesterday I was parked next to Mark's 1975 GT4 and it was the first time I have ever compared it to another one. My gearbox/diff looked totally different to that of Mark's. When I did the clutch it took about 1 1/23 hous, i was told by the previous owner that it could be done on the side of a track in about 45 mins. As mentioned elsewhere its an ex-Donnington track car. Is there a different box? my car is lightening quick to 60, sub 5 secs but maxs out at 145ish (according to GPS- not speedo). Could the gearing be altered? Would that change the 2nd gear issue? Regards Nick
Nick, I see this this morning on Foc (3rd ad down), sounds right up your street. http://www.ferrariownersclub.co.uk/sales/parts.asp
I put it down ro the smaller wheels and possibly the gearing. The speedo read 40 when the GPS read 30. Now its all back to normal. though I still think it (is/seems) faster than 5.7 secs
I have one of these if you want to borrow it. Just pay the postage both ways and I'll send it to you. No hurry in returning as my car isn't finished yet. http://www.race-technology.com/ap22_2_82.html
I have no idea what they are worth. I think he did post a thread in the 308/328/Mondial section a couple of months ago asking what their value was.
I was told by someone who "knows" that they only go into second when cold when the 'box is worn. Mine takes about 5 miles on a warm day before second is easily selected. Can't say it has ever been a problem, I sometimes go from first to third even when it's all warmed through. BTW, I stumbled into your website the other day and those 18" wheels do look good.....
