Am repainting the airbox on my 328. Does the stencil in white on the top of the airbox just say "Ferrari" or does it say "Ferrari UFI"??? My guess is that the "Ferrari" goes on top of the the airbox and the "UFI" on the air intake side of the lower box. The box on the car was redone before I bought it and simply painted wrinkle black. Help!

Just "Ferrari" is correct for the 328. I have this one in my 308 and it is incorrect but that is what Italian Car Parts sent me on exchange insisting it was correct. The letters are somewhat distorted in the photo due to jpeg compression and don't actually look like that.

On my '87 GTB the layout is "Ferrari" to the left and the UFI text to the right, together centered in the space.

At some point (1989?) they went to just "Ferrari" centered in space as shown in the image above.

Earlier 328's are like Furman's. Later they just had "Ferrari". I'm not sure when the changeover was.

I was under the impression that all 328 airboxes only said "Ferrari".

Thanks guys. Sounds like another item where the factory may have just done what they wanted to at the time. I am going to assume because my 328 GTB is an 86' that Ferrari and UFI are on the top of the box. Thanks again.

Looks pretty nice. I was considering sending mine in on the exchange program and this photo has convinced me to do it. My "Ferrari" silkscreen is very faded.

My Mondial is a 3.2 cab. The airbox doesn't have a stencil on it. Did 328's have "Ferrari", while Mondial's are blank?

From looking at pics that I found on EBay and other sites looks like it is hit and miss. Surely there was some strategy to it! Anyway, unless you are shooting for a concours car I say do what you feel looks best. I'll tell you, an airbox with a nice coat of fresh wrinkle paint and Ferrari stenciled on top looks mighty fine!

As you can see from the previous thread photo, I realised when taking the photo that the mesh under the rear bonnet must be flexing down onto the box while driving.

When stationary there is about 6mm gap.

Anyone else experience this problem and, if so, how fixed.

    Thanks

    Tony

I bought one of these airbox stencils that's regularly listed on ebay but wasn't impressed with the overall results. The stencil itself looks well produced and is reusable.

With the black wrinkle paint you cannot get the stencil to sit totally flat onto the surface of the airbox so once you've applied the matt white paint and removed the stencil you get a really hazy finish. The outline of the letters aren't sharp and it looks crap.

I had 3 attempts at it and decided to give it up as a bad idea.

Has anyone else used one of these stencils with good results ?

Franco, put pieces of double sided tape of the underside of the stencil, especially between as many letters as you can, before attempting to use it. I would have thought that whoever sold you the stencil would have recommended this. You will find that the stencil hugs the box much better and therefore eliminates much of the overspray. I did this and my looks great. Although not perfect, I would guess it is as good if not better than Luigi would have done it at the factory!

My March '88 328 GTS just says "Ferrari" on the airbox. I am certain it is original.

Franco, I too bought one of the ebay stenciling kits, I have tried 4 times with no luck. The black krinkle goes on great, the white part is the hardest part. To this day, I have a black airbox with no lettering. Pisses me off.

The only decent result is to have it silk screened. I found the Ferrari font somewhere on this forum, downloaded it took it to a silk screen shop. Results were perfect
