You are an important business person. You get to pick between a Phantom EWB or Maybach 62 to be driven around in. Which do you choose and why?

I looked closely at the two cars then bought the Maybach. It has more comfortable seats front and rear. It is much easier to get in and out of in the back seat. I like the curtains and tables and video arrangements better.

The reclining seat of the 62 is popular but does nothing for me. The electoluminescent light in the rear roof is neat but again it would not be the reason I would buy the car.

As the driver I love the BIG power. It may not be that useful for the passenger but it is better to have than not.

From an ownership standpoint there are many more MB dealerships around in case something needs to be done. They did their homework when the car was developed. So there seems to be nothing to do but drive away.

Personally I'd go with the 62. Always liked those more than the Phantoms. Be it known though that I've never owned either :)

I'd go with the understated elegance (compared to the Phantom) of the Maybach.

Much of the attention I get when driving my Rolls is not always kind. I've gotten some very unflattering comments at times, and also some smitten ones from women I didn't know.

I will say, the Rolls will attract a lot of ladies, if that's what you want. More so than any of my F-cars ever have!

ridden in and driven the 62, drove and rode in the standard Phantom.... (insert grain of salt here)

both are smooth as silk, both are over powered, both have more gadgets, bells, whistles to keep ya busy for a long time, either from the front seat or rear.

From the front or the rear the Maybach feels smaller, more powerful and a little more suited to its size and station all around. I wrote a review of the car a few years ago and said this...

"Imagine a 500lb. ballet dancing NFL Hall of Fame linebacker. Got that image? Just don’t picture him in a tutu and tights, it ruins it, trust me. He’s heavier, more graceful, faster, smarter, and more agile than he should be."

The Phantom felt... well, over the top, in every dept. It felt bigger, it felt just as powerful, it felt posher, it felt....well, like you would expect a Rolls to feel, except even moreso. Over the top on all fronts, drive, ride, styling...

if it were up to me I'd go with the Maybach. A little more understated, just as posh, perhaps more functional....dont ask me how/why...it just feels that way, perhaps the Rolls seems more geared towards show, the Maybach more towards plush utility.

plus...The Maybach will light up the tires if you know how to turn the traction control completely off :D

Been out many times in both cars...both very good, but Rolls is by far the choice. The 62 has that lame divider between the seats which is pointless if your on a date or inviting girls to jump in. The seating configuration is weak as you have no chance to even sit near your date. The creature comforts are cool but nothing more than a benz. The car gets you zero street credit unless you know cars. That said, I agree with the folks who like understated, but limited props for sure. The sunroof lighting is cool but again this means nothing when out in the car. As a party car it's weak as a NY commuter it's great. The car is so comfortable I fell asleep a few times riding home. The Rolls is by far more over the top and the theater seating bench is perfect for piling in girls to ride to the afterparty. Much more street props and more "Wow" factor which I think is important if you spend that kind of money on a car and some chick thinks your in a benz.....Rolls all the way no doubt.

I like the exterior styling of the Phantom a lot more than the Maybach 62 but the interior of the Maybach wins easily in my oppinion. The Phantom's front seating has always reminded me of an extremly posh pick-up truck because of the dash and its backseats are much nicer than everything else, just not quite as nice as the 62. Those back seats in the 62 are more inviting than most la-z-boys.

A good point was made about the rear center console being an annoyance but if you were going to spec up your own 62 you could probably get them to put a middle seat in rather than the console. You can do that with the Arnage RL.

If the Maybach is to understated for you, as it is for the high rollers in the hip-hop industry, then you could do as they do and slap some dubs on it. lol. That makes people take a second look at your "S Class" and realize it's in a whole other league.

Rolls. Hands down.... Why? The car is a statement itself. It shows that you are an IMPORTANT business man. And that you have made your goal in life to be successful. It stands out amongst others. Its comfortable but if you want to be unique get the theatre configuration. Unlike the maybach whitch lays low the maybach will atract attension no matter what and that's in a good way.

    Well stated, as usual.

However, my personal taste has always run to the 60s MB600 SWB.

    No we talk cars :)

One should take a project of shoehorning the Twinturbo 612 Bhp Merc engine into a W100 600, update a bit the interior gadgetry, and that would be a hell of a car.
More presence than Dark Vader :)

For the Phantom vs Maybach stuff i sat /rode in both (though the Maybach was a brabus tuned one...) and it would be the maybach hands down.

The Phantom is too much in your face, has a harsh suspension the interior is neither high tech like the Maybach, nor is it incredibly plush the way an Arnage is or previous Rolls used to be.
Fine you sit high and have plenty of headroom, but so do you in any garbage-truck (btw both share the same on-street presence and subtle aerodynamics) so it guess it's pretty pointless.

I guess Road & Track put it best way back in 1966 (r.e. the Mercedes 600 Pullman) -

"One can hardly imagine a seduction scene played out in this car...rape, maybe, but not seduction."

Maybe sometimes less really is more.

That's if you want to show off. If you could care less about that, the Maybach wins. The Maybach to me is much more business person oriented, while the Phantom is for celebs and the like.

Own them both: Maybach is better to be driven around in, The Phantom Is just the ultimate! Where ever you go you get V.I.P. treatment. Don't get me wrong, You do also in the Matbach, But alot more attention in the Phantom. Back seat space in the Maybach is uncomparable as long as you have a driver. The Phantom's back seats are "just" back seats. AND the gadgets in the Maybach are FAR SUPERIOR than the Phantom. They both drive Beautifully. The Maybach Has that MBZ feel (which is a good thing). Tight solid. The thing I don't like about the Phantom is that traditional skinny steering wheel. Believe it or not, the Phantom feels SMALLER and sportier to me?!?!?! I love them both and really try not to compare, rather just enjoy the qualities of each.

As a Silver Seraph owner, I'd normally be inclined to reccomend the Rolls Royce, but frankly, with all the gadgets and it's somewhat too modern styling, the Phantom stands out like an F-4 Phantom and that isn't how I perceive Rolls Royce class to be. It should be more about simple elegance which is where I think RR got it wrong this time around.

That being said, I saw a Maybach at a MB dealership and although I was impressed by it, I felt the price they were asking was too much for the car. My cousin's husband ordered one and he is very much looking forward to the level of comfort and luxury that it offers. Depending on the price and how frequently you intend to use the car, the Maybach may be a better choice.
