My new Sears CRAFTSMAN jack shot craps after 1-1/2 years and maybe 10 uses. My Harbor Freight Jack is still working and working well after 13 years. The Craftsman Jacks have a 1 Year Warranty and they suck. Go to the Sears website and read the reviews of Model #50240. Most of them are not so good. I am in the process of rebuilding mine now. Just my $0.02.

I have some from Pep Boys that are pretty short. They are called Big Red by Torin I think.
A picture of them in use under a 348... And that is an old Craftsman floor jack I bought at a garage sale for $10 about 15 years ago. Works good, but doesn't look great. I have to drive the car onto some 2x6 to get the necessary clearance for the floor jack.

    Hello from Germany,

I have the same ( DK 20 ? ) The most versatile floor jack I ever had. Is yours the DK 20Q with the quick lift pedal ?

    Best Regards

I've got that same one, and it looks just like your photo when it's going under *my* QV too!

Richard, there *is* a Harbor Freight in Huntsville, up on University Ave...

Might not be up to snuff compared to Griots or something a shop would be using every day, but for us occasional mechanics, mine has been GREAT.

Yeah, Mike, I bought a Harbor Freight jack and stands a few years ago from the University location. It was fine for my wife's Toyota and my Nissan, but I ran into some issues with it on my 328.

Weather permitting we should get together this weekend. I'd like to see your QV up close. I think I saw you buzzing down Jordan Lane a couple of months ago.

Yes, I have the quick lift pedal, though, it seems I am always on my hands-and-knees when engaging the jack with the car.

I agree that the AC Hydraulics DK 20 is an excellent choice. I have two, plus the extension beam and 100mm lift extender.

Do you have a picture of the extension beam in action. I had wondered if this device would allow one to lift the testarossa without flexing the chassis.

OFF TOPIC: Your profile inidcates you once owned a Fiat 124 Abarth. Was it any good? I have never driven one but always considered it to be the 'Holy Grail' of small italian sports cars (that and the Lancia 037).

Sorry, I don't have a photo of the beam extension in use. If it helps I can tell you the minimum and extended length of the beam. Certainly it would help reduce chassis flex on any car (if the ends of the beam can reach two good jacking points).

It works very well on my Saab 900 but I have not used it on the 328. I'm not sure that I would be able to "hit" two good jacking points going in from the side of the car.

The 124 Abarth was a great car! I foolishly sold it after buying my Lancia Montecarlo. I had to move to England from Sardinia and did not want to return to drive the second car..... big mistake. Only 1013 124 Abarths were built. It was very highly modified from a normal Fiat Spider at the factory (and that was the street version, not the full factory rally car). I would love to have another one along with a Fiat 131 Abarth. I just love those cars too.

For most shop items you might do well to avoid hobbyist grade equipment. The substantial difference in quality is not offset by the marginally lower price. This is especially true with items relating to safety such as jacks. One source for professional gear is a company called Automotive Service Equipment. Their website URL is: http://www.asedeals.com/. I have not yet dealt with them but I am favorably impressed by their offerings and am about to buy a lift from them. Good luck. Denis

I THINK it would work on your car but it's only a guess. The two jack pads can be raised by turning them C.C.W. so that would help if the beam is touching something between the two jacking points.

Anyway, the minimum distance between the two jack pad centers is 29 inches and the max. distance (fully extended) is 45 inches. I would check that first on your car to see if the two jacking points are between 29 and 45 inches.

In any case, even if you bought it and it did not work on the TR it's always useful on other cars that have normal jacking points along the rocker panel seam.

If you do order one keep in mind that it may not come with the two rubber jack pads. You'll want those to eliminate metal-to-metal contact. I'm pretty sure mine did NOT come with the rubber pads.

    Erich
