I have the 1989 328 wiring diagram that is easily found on the Internet, but the wires don't seem to match up. I'm trying to troubleshoot my lack of hazard lights and turn signals and am running into a roadblock.

Any help with the wiring diagram would be much appreciated.

I have an '88, so I got the '87 and '89 wiring diagrams. The only difference between them I can see is the extra diagram for the ABS in the '89.

The diagrams are market specific, so the US market diagrams might not match a Euro car.

They're also not the most well organized wiring diagrams, either -- they use a ersatz physical relative position layout that results in having to carefully follow long lines across the page.

But they're fairly accurate, as far as I can tell.

Just remember that the color code letters are in Italian. ;)
    (e.g 2,5N: 2.5mm Nero = black)

What isn't matching up is the turn signal / hazard flasher wiring colors. I have found 3 of the same flashers near the steering column. Two to the left of the column under the little storage tray, and one to the right of the column under the dash. I think it is the latter that is the turn signal flasher. However, the wiring to the flasher is nothing like what is in the diagram. There are 4 wires shown on the diagram while mine only has three. Of those three wires the only that are the correct color is the ground. I did find the color conversion chart at the beginning of the wiring diagram.

I appreciate the help and any more advice is much appreciated.

    Gene,

I've got a wiring diagram in hand for a USA spec 328, labled MY86/87. It shows 4 wires at the flasher (M, N and BN).

    M-Brown
    N-Black
    BN-White striped Black

Do your turn signals work correctly?
    This flasher controls both...

    Regards,
    David

The hazards and both turn signals don't work. They were intermitant at one time, but have failed completely. I have replaced the hazard switch and flasher (If I replaced the right one) and swapped relays with know good. Now I'm down to chasing wires and I'm not sure why my colors aren't correct. There is a non factory radio in the car so maybe someone jacked with wires sometime in the past.

I appreciate you verifying the correct colors with me. However, you said there were four wires but only listed three. My diagram shows four, with two of them being of the same color. That in itself is weird to me.

Thanks again and any more advice is much appreciated.

There are four wires, but only three male terminals on the direction/hazard flasher (Fig 6, item 63 in either 328 US wiring diagram) -- the two BN wires are swagged together in the same female spade terminal -- make sure that you've got the right device (e.g., if your wire colors don't match the wiring diagram for the flasher have you also ruled out your wire color/combination for every other gizmo in the wiring diagram? Or if your gizmo has 4 male terminals, that might not be the flasher).
