Like the title says, I'm looking for a Beachfront hotel in La Jolla or SD, nice but not crazy expensive. Also, any tips for restaurants for a nice dinner? Heading down there this weekend, so make it snappy! Boy, I'm demanding, aren't I?

    Thanks!

Hey, thanks, I booked a room there, so I'm set on a place to stay.

Still looking for nice places to eat, open to any cuisine.

    La Jolla:

George's at the Cove. Pricey but nice food and even better food. Nouveau Californian fare.

Jack's: Sous chef from Jean George in NYC came to open this new place. Casual downstairs, more formal and pricey upstairs. Good for people watching during lunch if you get a table overlooking Girard Ave.

    Good breakfast and lunch:
Brockton Villa in the heart of LJ village.

    Good dinner:
Beaumont's on LJ blvd just 10 mins north from T23.

Tapanade--good french food from a french chef who moved from NYC to LJ years ago.

Pacific Beach (just south of LJ and 10 mins almost due east from T23):
Sushi Ota. Best sushi you will find in SD.

Inland about 15-18 mins from T23:
Spicy City: Spicy Hunan style Chinese. On Convoy road.

I'd suggest Mexican but I presume you get enough of that already.

Ha, that's funny, I am staying there Sat night, & the Tower 23 Fri night, I'll compare the two.

Jimbo, thanks for the suggestions, we will surely check out a couple of those. Cheers!

    >>George's at the cove: Pricey but nice food and even better food<<

Heh, meant: pricey but nice view and even better food. If you go for lunch at the top deck, it's cheaper and has a killer view but the food is imho good, not as great as downstairs.

I live in LJ and have eaten at all the places in town. Tower 23 has a nice bar at the bottom on the beach. It's modern and newly built.

This is a helpful thread for me, too. Just bought a place in the Village in LJ as a getaway. Thanks for the leads on some good restaurants to try!

I lived in LaJolla for 5 years, on Prospect, just West of Torry Pines. Three times, guest's cars in my driveway were broken into and the radios were taken. Once, a spare tire was stolen from another car in my driveway. A guy was knifed right in front of my house as he walked from a restaurant to his car. The Jewelry store on Prospect two blocks away was robbed and one person killed.

Just a month ago, there was a fight at one of the bars in LaJolla, several of the participants followed one of the other guys to his mother's house in LaJolla, beat him and killed him.

LaJolla is a very pretty place but it also attracts people looking for trouble.

Some have moved on from Jack's and are now at Delirio's (also in La Jolla); wonderful food and menu.
    Love Tapenade for French.
The fun part of living in LJ: eating out!

Ok, we made it back, had fun, but I got a little sick(just a cold) on Fri night.

Only meal we had in La Jolla was lunch at Sammys Woodfired Pizza, where I had a little pizza, & it was pretty tasty & a nice casual place. Stopped over at Symbolic for a few minutes as well.

Fri night @ Tower 23, very nice place to stay, a very happening scene with the young & beautiful. We decided to eat there @ JRDN. That was very good & priced pretty reasonably for a hotel restaurant.

We had breakfast & lunch at World Famous, pretty good food & service, priced very cheap. Took Jimbos tip about Sushi Ota, & had a great sushi dinner there. Not much ambiance, but everything else was good.

Sat night @ Pacific Terrace, generally an ok place, we got a sucky room with a view of the exit driveway. The room itself was nice, there's a nice little gym, a decent comp Continental Breakfast. The back elevator smelled like ass, & the underground parking smelled funky too.

The sun never came out while we were there, but I didn't mind that as much as my wife did. Good times & good food, my wife really liked the PB area, so we will probably be back again soon.
