Is this related to the flooding/power station failure? Where is the isp based?

Grahams post as mentioned by Mark -

    'Just so you know...

Downtime seems to be a side effect of the weather conditions. Phoned the support centre this morning and was told(by recorded message) that the data centre isn't actually flooded but that most staff are absent due to conditions on the surrounding roads

They advise that most servers are running which implies that some are not. They're not able to offer a full support service at the moment due to having very few staff to answer phones and deal with technical matters.

Was told not to bother holding due to extremely long wait times and the fact that there would probably be nobody there to deal with it anyway!

I guess we just have to wait until the waters subside...'

Not suprised mate, it's what happens when club funds are not used properly. Thought they were going to invest a proper server company with support but it must have eaten into the curry fund.

I think the CS hosting company is Fasthosts, which is the same company I use. Don't have any problems with my hosted sites, although they aren't on a dedicated server like CS is.

Ah well - at least Fasthosts have a refund policy if the dedicated server goes down :)

Having looked their location up on streetmap.co.uk they do look ominously close to the River Severn. Not surprised the support staff can't get to work. Although they say they have a standby generator, which I wouldn't be surprised to learn they were using at the moment because haven't they turned off electricity to a lot around there? I wonder how long they can keep that running if the staff can't get there to look after it. Not nice :-(
