Sorry about your grandfather. Sounds like you have a strong head on your shoulders and you'll do just fine.

They've taken him off life support and he's not expected to make it through the night :( At least everyone closest to him is now with him. I guess we'll be flying out there within the next few days

Thanks for all the support guys

    :(

    With sincere sympathy,

    Pete & Melodie.

PS: Thank you for bringing this thread to the board. It not only helped you during a trying time, it made others more aware of how precious existing family members are that are often taken for granted when they are a short drive, flight or a phone call away.

Thanks guys. The worst part is (and this is a terrible terrible thought but i can't help thinking it) is that there are 3 more deaths (Nanny, Grandpa and Granny) that could happen anytime :( Grandpa has been in and out of the hospital numerous times with cancer. Life is so fragile.

My condolences to you. Sometimes when it rains, it pours. I lost my mother-in-law very unexpectedly last October, and my sweet grand dad but a month later.

My aunt told me that, a few hours before my grand dad died, he looked out the window with the biggest smile on his face and said "You know they're out there don't you?" My aunt asked him again, and he said "Oh nevermind, you'll just say I'm hallucinating."

I don't know what he saw - angels perhaps - but he certainly went in as much peace as possible, surrounded by family.

I think of both of them often, they will continue living with me for the rest of my life, and I look forward to a grand reunion with all who have passed someday soon.

My condolences to you and your family.

Yes it is and the awareness of that reality is one of the best things anyone can learn.
